It's just good sense to protect yourself. Sure, if you're lucky you'll meet that one special person you can sort things out then. But for the vast majority, it's better to be safe than sorry. I'm hardly preaching abstinence, as I feel it's entirely possible to have safe enough sex most of the time.

Over the past few years there has been a huge surge in the amount of young people getting various STDs because I guess there isn't as much fear anymore of what can happen. But the fact is that HIV is still out there. So are other viral STDs that you can never get rid of. Why do you think there are so many genital herpes drugs on the market today?

Just because a woman is trustworthy does not mean her body is. It is entirely possible that another partner, who was as 'trustworthy' as she is lied to her and gave her something she may not even know she has. There is also the possibility your trustworthy woman is not as trustworthy as you think she is. I'd much rather be safe than have to worry about any diseases.

The pill does nothing to protect against STDs, and once again, I'd much rather be safe than sorry. I don't know if you know this, but it is entirely possible for a woman's body to become immune to the hormones in birth control pills, esp. if they're on the same pill for long periods of time. Not to mention, why the hell is it solely the woman's responsibility to have birth control? You need to watch after yourself, and you should always assume that your partner has something you don't know about. To quote the philisopher House, everyone lies. If you are willing to put your physical/financial health at risk every time you have sex, then not much I will say is going to help you.
