Official bored at work / just shooting the shit / no rails to derail thread
Re: Official bored at work / just shooting the shit / no rails to derail thread
(02:29:36 AM) febaen: one question before you go
(02:29:42 AM) Mom: yes
(02:29:43 AM) febaen: you seriously have zero problem with me studying in Pyongyang?
(02:30:21 AM) Mom: if you are safe and its something you really want, then you know i am on your side
(02:30:26 AM) febaen: I love you.
(02:30:43 AM) Mom: i was all for you staying in Japan after the earthquakes
(02:32:06 AM) febaen: right, well, that was a little bit less harrowing than an Orwellian military state constantly teetering on the brink of collapse; relying on its enemies to aid it from starvation which would likely be the final straw for its population
(02:32:28 AM) Mom: sounds like fun
Re: Official bored at work / just shooting the shit / no rails to derail thread
So news came down that as of next week, we are on 5 day schedules, working eight hours.
Part of the reason I even took a job that was as far out as this one is was because I would only have to drive out there four days out of the week, so the gas and mileage would even out. Now I'm really annoyed because I don't know where that extra gas money is really going to come from.

Wow, great advice. I bet it never would have occurred to her to use the same paycheck she's been getting to pay for a larger set of expenses. Protip Aks: Your job gives you money. Use that to pay for things. Aherpaderp.

I dont know what your job is exactly... but there are a few out there who offer compensation for your commute. It's worth asking. I get compensated a certain amount a month.
Besides that... uhhhh.... hitchhike?.... carpool with someone who lives close by?... use public transportation? (sometimes there are buses that drive right down most major freeways that can at least get you close by. Unlike normal public transit... most of these are dirt cheap and run consistantly on time. I know we have them in MA... FL I'm not so sure.

Is that how this shit works. Boy have I been doing things wrong.

None of those options are feasible. Obviously not hitchhiking, there's no one else who lives as far out as I do, and the buses stay on one side of the bay except for like one every three hours or some dumb crap, at least last I checked.
To be fair, I'm not exactly loving the work, anyway. And the money I make was a slight pay cut from my last job but because it was only a four-day commute, I figured I could make it work. Now I know that it's not going to. The gas thing wasn't bad, really, it was about even with when I was working at Coke. But the added mileage now coupled with an extra day of driving (totals to exactly 48.6 miles a day, and that's without any pit stops/detours on the way) I'm going to be needing gas a lot more frequently. With gas at $3.85 a gallon on average, that's going to fucking kill me. And we're moving to a new office that's even further away.
Yeah, this isn't going to work. I can try to ask about the schedule thing and say, "Listen, the only reason I took a job this far away was because I was under the assumption I'd be working only four days and that way, I could make it work with the gas usage. Now that it's changing, I can't see how I can feasibly make ends meet with the extra expenses. What can you do for me?"
But even if that did work, I really don't want to work there that badly anyway. So I probably won't ask, and I'll just silently look for something else. Which is what I'm about to do as soon as I take my morning shower and get something to eat.

And here they've been paying me in gum for months... this is the first i've heard of this... "moe-nay" you speak of. Last I heard... renaissance painters were not a form of currancy.

Considering how lucky you are to HAVE a job, and how close you were to abject poverty no less than a month or two ago, I'd say suck it up and if you're unhappy, look for another job.
I just got four more automated job app refusals this morning. The kinds of jobs I'm considering now aren't even the sort I'd WANT to take, but you do what you have to do.
Re: Official bored at work / just shooting the shit / no rails to derail thread
Yeah of course I'll suck it up as long as I have to, but I'm really hoping to find something sooner rather than later. I mean, I hated everything about working at Coke but I dealt with it (until they fired me over the most asinine thing ever, lol) because I hadn't found anything else yet.
