Yes, Go Home Time needs to get here. My iPod battery did not make it to the end of the day. I thought maybe it might when I checked this morning, but it's now charging until the end of the day.

Nothing worse than an already slow day going slower because of silence.

I got into a minor fender bender this morning on the way to work.

Driving around here, I knew it was only a matter of time, but I'm still a little shaken up about it. Basically, here in Tampa, you basically will sometimes just see traffic come to a complete stop for no apparent reason. You're going at a good 30, then OHSHIT slam on the brakes. This happens like four times a morning. Before, I had been lucky.

So today I was cruising along in the right lane, as my exit was coming up in about a mile or so and changing lanes can be a challenge, and we had another of these sudden stop moments. I knew there was no way I was going to stop in time to keep from hitting the car in front of me (who had also just slammed on her brakes) so I swerved over to the shoulder to avoid hitting her, and as I did so, I swiped the back end of her car with the front end of mine. Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck.

We pulled over, put on our four-ways and surveyed, the lady said, "Oh, that's just a scratch. Don't worry about it." Thank you Jesus. Her car is as old as my truck, she said, and basically it didn't matter. My truck was, of course, unscratched.

I thanked her for being so kind (cause a lot of people are total dicks about it) and we got in our cars and went our separate ways, and I even managed to make it to work on time by some miracle. And by some other miracle, there were no cops around to force us to trade information, because the last thing I need right now is an insurance claim.

So yeah, that was my morning. Can this week be over yet?

I realized today that I do something that my son always used to do and that my mom and I used to always comment on. He'd always lie down to take his bottle/sippy cup and pull on his hair while he was drinking it - but only when he was tired. Today I noticed that in my tired state, I've been pulling my hair. Is this something that I've always done but never noticed until my son did? Or is it something that I got from him?

I suppose the world will never know, but it's kind of funny.

I think I've posted about my ex-cubicle-mate here before. She's very impulsive, has an unfortunate tendency to make poor decisions, and may be losing her mind.

She was allegedly drugged, sexually assaulted, and then dragged off to Vegas for more of the same. She missed a couple of days of work during this episode & obviously didn't call in. When she got back here, she was warned about her attendance (she had developed a habit of oversleeping, then taking a long leisurely bath before sauntering into work 4 hours late). She said the whole assault thing was a wake-up call & vowed that her days of flakiness were over.

Apparently, she left early yesterday, saying she was sick. She came in today sporting the brand new tattoo she got yesterday after leaving work "sick." Not just sporting it -- showing it off. If the rumor mill has its facts straight, she's now in trouble for using sick time to go get a tattoo -- and her manager may be in some sort of trouble for letting her get away with as much crap as she's gotten away with.

I"m not looking for feedback or advice. I know she's a big girl & she has to be responsible for the consequences of her actions. It's just unsettling seeing someone's life come apart at the seams.

If I was kidnapped and sexually assaulted I don't think I'd be sharing that with everybody at work. Supervisor, yeah, and in confidence. But why would you practically brag about something like that? Wtf mate.

In related news, I am getting a new tattoo when I get my tax return. I can't wait! But my silly W2s have to arrive in my mailbox first.

... and I'll go out on a limb & say you won't be calling in sick to get the tattoo (hoping that by then, you'll be a permanent employee with sick time and everything).

As far as doing something your child does ... I've known for a long time that when my daughter is concentrating on something (mostly coloring or doing a puzzle or something), she sticks her tongue out ever so slightly. I've been amused lately to realize that I do the same thing.

ETA: I don't think she was telling "everybody" at work about the assault. She used to be a volunteer advocate for sexual assault victims, so she has a different attitude about that kind of thing than most. She'd rather other women know that such things happen, how to protect themselves (if possible), and that they shouldn't be shamed into silence afterward... so that part I can actually understand. Even before she started unraveling, she wasn't the kind of person who would internalize that kind of crap & blame herself.

Also, I remember you mentioning her before haha. She would know how late she was, but didn't care. How do people like that keep jobs while hard working people can't find one? It's mind boggling.

She's 35 -- so she doesn't have that whole "too young to know any better" thing going for her at all.

Oh okay. Yeah the way your first post read it sounded like she was kind of "bragging" (for lack of a better word) about it when that seems like something I'd want to keep to myself. I just wouldn't consider that to be anyone's business, especially near-strangers that I work alongside every day. Hell, I wouldn't even tell my parents about something like that, but then again, we're not exactly close. I'd seek therapy. And intertr0ns.
