Meh whatever.

Weird text conversation with my ex-husband. Keep in mind, I pretty much can't stand him and talk to him only when absolutely necessary, and 99% of the time via text or e-mail so I have to actually talk to him as little as possible. The kids live with his parents so it works out, because I actually like them.

Conversation

Okay, I'm doing my dailies in WoW, minding my own business, none of this is provoked. Out of the blue, I get: (Punctuation and spelling is as it is in the text. You all know I don't usually type like that.)

HIM: I am in Oklahoma. Trying to stop my girlfriend from having an abortion tomorrow. I have never been so afraid in my life julia

ME: O.o

HIM: I am desperate and have said everything there is in the world. She's not listening to her mom and I. 6 weeks along. She just found out less than a week ago

HIM: and she's completely shut me out. She wasn't even going to tell me, I found out when I sensed something was off.

HIM: Sorry for ranting

Me: Um ok. And (sorry if this seems rude) what am i supposed to do? I mean it isnt as though we're friends. Is she worried it's gonna bother me or something if u have more kids? Cuz it totally wont. Lol.

HIM: Sorry for saying anything

Me: Why? Obviously you thought I could help somehow but i dont know her and i really dont know you. But if you want advice im not really good at this sort of thing i have never considered abortion myself so i dont even understand the mindset.



And he didn't text any more after that.

So what the fuck? I know I was a bitch, but you know what? We're divorced. His problems are not mine to deal with anymore. I really don't give a fuck about his relationship problems. I mean the dude has serious insecurity issues, that's part of why I couldn't stand to be around him. So he'll probably be scarred for life now. But I don't see how that's my problem. Again, the kids are with his parents, and they're honestly better off with them than with him, so seriously, why does it matter if my ex has a meltdown? I just don't see how this pertained to me at all. A little help?

My guess is that it really didn't have anything to do with you, other than the fact that you were someone he felt comfortable venting to. He's freaking out & has nobody to talk to -- so since he was (presumably) once comfortable enough with you to talk about things he likely wouldn't talk to anyone else about, you were the lucky recipient of the text.

That may make the interaction feel even safer for him. If you're not talking on a regular basis, you won't get on him about the issue on a regular basis (not that you would ...). You were just someone for him to voice his stress to.

Women vent so we can get feedback & figure out a way through our issues with the help/wisdom of others. Men vent just to get their own thoughts in order without actually wanting anyone to try to help. That's a big difference, apparently, between stereotypical male behavior & stereotypical female behavior. Of course, there are exceptions -- but I wouldn't be surprised to hear this situation falls neatly into that little pattern.

Does this woman have kids already & just doesn't want another? Is she just not ready emotionally or financially for being a mother? Is it possible she cheated on him & doesn't know who the father is (or suspects strongly that someone else is the father)?

I honestly don't know the answer to any of those questions. My ex and I live about 1000 miles apart from each other and so really, interaction is minimal (thank fucking god). I've never met this woman, don't even know her name.

Oh well, not gonna stress over it. He's obviously all butthurt that I wasn't all sympathetic to him about his problem, but really, what the hell did he expect from his ex-wife?

My thought is that he's probably desperate and in a really bad place at the moment and for whatever reason thought of you.

Dunno what you could have done though, besides, I do have to agree that it's not your problem considering that you haven't spoken in so long. Now if you had kept in touch with your ex and still maintained a relationship, be it friends or whatever, then it might be different. But ya'll haven't. /shrug

No, it's not that. If someone is breaking into my apartment with intent to rape, harm, or kill me, I'm going to make damn sure they don't succeed. And I don't live in the nicest part of town, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone did attempt to get in to my house.

Am I supposed to just let them have their way with me? Do you think a knife is going to be safer for me to weild against a criminal hell bent on inflicting damage? Should I let them take all of the stuff I've worked hard for and can not afford to replace? No. There's no fucking way.

For the record, I do hunt, and I do eat the animals that I shoot. But you're damn right that weapon I have for mainly hunting purposes will double as added security in case of some crazy lunatic that thinks because I'm a "helpless, defenseless" woman living alone that he can do what he will with me. And living with a man would not change the fact that I would continue to keep a gun in my house.
