Re: Official bored at work / just shooting the shit / no rails to derail thread
so I went to check on dog, noticed she had what appeared to be maggots in her hair. Took her outside, housed her down, see huge open sores. I'll spare you the details beyond that, but called a vet to come euthanise her and take the body.
Feel like total shit. This is the dog I've had since I was 8, and I she's going to die in a few hours.
Also feeling like shit because I didn't notice this earlier (she has very thick fur), and because now that I've seen how bad it is I can't stand to look at her. I've basically abandoned her on the back porch. I tried to make myself go back, but it'd gotten even more gruesome. I'm just going to point the vet towards her and let him take care of it
I've never even particularly liked her; she was never friendly towards me, pretty much never followed commands, constantly begged for food, sat on air vents and stole the cool/warm air. But man I haven't cried this hard in years.

Checked on her again despite my better judgment. Already dead. I'm upset she had to go like that, but then at least she didn't have to spend the extra time suffering. Plus the pet hospital can get someone out here quicker to just collect the remains, so she's not being swarmed on by insects, and I can get on cleaning up the back porch and everything else; I can barely stand to go downstairs right now.
Sent an email to the City Manager about this, got a reply with an amazingly quick turnaround time. Said he's contacting the police department (which runs animal control) about it, and that they'll be in touch at a more appropriate time. Other than the Comic Sans signature, a good example of government not sucking.
Once I clean out her bowl, I'm going to put it on the mantle; we made it ourselves back when she was a puppy. Name painted on it, etc. (Yes, it's glazed and safe to eat from).
