                        I recently bought a 22" HD LCD monitor for the computer I recently ordered. I was looking forward to plugging the PS3 into its HDMI port, but I realized the monitor doesn't come with built in speakers. Unless there's a way to output the sound either from the PS3 or the monitor itself, I'm kind of screwed. It's still a nice monitor and all, but I was really looking forward to playing some HD BFBC2 and FFXIII on it.

                        Anybody have any suggestions?

                          PS3 has digital optical audio out. Any headset or speaker system that has digital optical audio in, can be hooked up to it and you can setup the ps3 to output your audio over it. Then you can setup the secondary audio on so if you use the hdmi audio at some other time you don't need to re-setup your audio.

                            Can you recommend any 2.1 speakers with optical input? In my searches I haven't found a single speaker system that lists optical input as a feature. I've found a few which accept auxillary inputs, such as the analog red and white cables. I think I can swing that; HDMI into the monitor and analog into the speakers. I think the PS3 can handle that.

                              The PS3 can def handle that, but you are losing out on the hidef audio which does have a huge impact when playing highly immersive games.

                                That would work, or you could get a pair of toslink aka spdif headset. Tritton and Turtle Beach make some nice headsets (x41 I have and use on both my ps3 and xbox 360). Your 2.1 speakers don't have digital in you would need to go more top end or look into a toslink to rca convertor.
