    afaik jailbreaking only opened up unofficial applications, and maybe the ability to use the iPhone on networks other than AT&T. It didn't do crap actually change how the OS itself works, which is kinda important when the main complaint is an inability to multitask.

          iPhone OS can multitask, and does, but only for Apple applications. This is why the device has more battery life then a MacBook.

          It was not designed to be a generic computer. It doesn't run a general purpose OS, you can't load unsanctioned applications on it. It's an exploded iPod Touch and that is all it ever will be. It is an appliance.

          And anyone with their head screwed on saw that coming.

            The more I read about the iPad, the more ridiculous it looks. I guess for a 500 dollar price tag, it's not awful. Reading the internet would be pretty handy, but other than that, I only see that thing as a gimmick. Not running a real OS will be it's downfall, I'm sure.

              Well of course I wasn't expecting the second coming of tablets with this thing. But multitasking is something that's becoming very common, even in non-smartphones (my LG Lotus can multitask for crying out loud), and if I want to screw up my battery life by running 50 different programs at once then I better damn well be able to do that. I mean, multitasking doesn't even NEED an OS! But wait, this is Apple we're talking about, and they never want to give consumers options in their software. It's their way or the highway and that viewpoint has gotten them in trouble this time.

              I will not be purchasing the iTampon.

                    I was more speaking to those asking for all these features in the supported OS, acting like it was supposed to replace their primary computer.
