My son has an appointment with Early Intervention today, if you don't know what that is, basically they evaulate him to see if he's developmentally behind. He's 20 months and he still doesn't say even one word yet, and he's also just ... weird. I think he's Autistic and of course I'm concerned, so these people are coming today to interact with him and basically check him out.
I'll let you guys know what goes down.

I didn't speak until I was around three *years*, and neither did Einstein. Whether to be horribly concerned or relieved is your choice. Babies are like cats, all they do is eat shit and sleep, and they're always weird.

I'm sure he'll be fine.

I hope it all works out for the best, nothing is as bad as not knowing..My buddy has a son the same age as my daughter and he was way behind in development also, they determined that it had somethign to do with the way his brain processed what his ears heard.. Fristrating, but they caught it early enough to get him the help he needed, too many times parents ignore things like this.

Good luck Aksa! Being quiet and weird isn't neccesarily a bad sign, but nothing wrong with getting it checked out, make sure to get a 2nd opinion though. These days it seems doctors are quick to diagnose Artistic as Autistic and put kids on pills. I hope your boy is well.

Nope, not really. Been tinkering a little with Plan 9 which lets you set up a quick grid, and with Inferno and some other console application you can extend the Plan 9 'grid' to machines not running Plan 9.

Those things are going to give me nightmares.

This software is irritating the hell out of me http://www.zabbix.com/screenshots_11_screens.php but damn, having a map with states that change colour when something goes wrong just looks too cool. It's the whole reason I chose to try and deploy it.

And speaking about virtualization, VMware ESX is just damn cool.

The GUI is kinda confusing if you're going at it the first time but that's because theres just so much you can do with it. Very very robust. Almost too much for its own good.

Well his initial eval. is done (they just left) and they say he does have developmental delays, so they're going to work with him - several therapists, mostly - to get him back on track. At this point, though, it's too early to classify him as Autistic or Aspergers or anything like that, just that he's delayed.

I'm really hopeful that he can get back up to speed. There are several areas in which he has delay but they said because he's so young there's a lot they can do for him.
