I think it depends on what kind of sites you're going to because some are more credible than others. I think it's a good idea to get to know people before you meet them in person so you already have a base to start with when you talk in person. But the problems with that can be many. They can be shy and uninteresting in person, look nothing like their picture, smell horrible, pick their nose, etc.

Ahh the dating sites, yes been there done that and got put off them...

I spoke to a lass on the phone for a while, got to know her, sounded ok on the phone, she worked nights at a razor factory. Her picture was one from the right hand side profile, reasonbly slim and attractive. (I thought, hey this is going well) I arranged to meet up in a bar one day so i got on the bus (it was while i was at university) and headed off to a town 30 miles away. Her profile said she had a tatoo (though it didn;t stipulate where)

On arrival I greeted her and noticed the tatoo went from her left eye right down past the neckline (sort of triad style), she turned out to be a bit of a physco not at all there mentally (its amazing how different peole sound and act on a phone to meeting in real life) after a few hours I made my excuses and bugered off.

she constantly kept phoning me up for weeks after to which i kept ignoring the phone. thankfully i never gave her my address as I'd suspect she'd turn up on my doorstep. I ahd to change my phone and un-subbed from the site... never again, I'll stick to the traditional "out on the pull" nights with friends if i need to start dating again.

Facebook seems to work well. But I live on Campus and I'm constantly active with my school, so meeting people is not really a problem for me.

Actually, it is a problem, because I can't stand people most of the time.

So what should I do for my birthday?

I have it narrowed down to Medieval Times or bowling...While MT is undeniably awesome, that's what I did for it last year. Bowling lends itself well to doing while shitfaced, and the bowling alley is half a block away from the bar that we are 98% certain to end up at. I'm kinda stumped for other ideas, not generally much of a birthday celebration guy.

do a Bungee jump, parachute jump, flying lesson, balloon ride, Karting session with mates, beer tasting at a brewery, strip club, quad biking, hire a sports car for the day...

I grew out of strip clubs a few years ago, and I'd prefer to not do anything that could potentially kill me since I'm likely to be wasted from 10am on. Beer tasting @ brewery though, that's not bad.
