A friend of mine is getting close to his doctorate in Sociology. He's done things like been a case worker at a hospital, child welfare stuff, general social services. Currently he's working with drug addicts, schizophrenics, and adults who can't really take care of themselves. The general idea is to try and get them to be something approaching a productive member of society, but in a lot of these cases, it's closer to just keeping them from being destructive.
