yes, just a pain. had to get 30amp power strips and then custom plugs, etc blah blah blah.

The an even bigger pain is when you have multiple devices like that that draw enough power that they can't share the circuit. (HP I'm looking at YOU)

The worst however, is when you're managing a datacenter and some genius orders a v890 that has 3 20amp (30amp? i can't remember) twistlocks and your expecting standard 15amp stuff. Oh, and remember it still has to be set up that day.

Yea, the thumper has regular plugs, but the 30amp power strip uses twistlocks... so its kinda just annoying all together. If the client wasnt such a whale of a company, we'd tell them to fuck themselves.

I absolutely hate 3power supply machines. such a waste of power and amp space on the circuit. That and single power supply boxes on systems that are critical. Of course, single power supply boxes are usually the clients doing because they want to skimp on price and naturally, the best way to skimp on price is to cut the most important things out of your system. >.>

However, I'm really glad a lot of systems come with low voltage versions now too. Considering how much power is such a premium nowadays.

Damn right. On top of that, who has 3 power sources? I have an A and a B side. I'm fine if I loose B but if I loose A the machine goes down because it needed two power supplies to run.

I'm liking VMWare for cutting down on power usage for a lot of x86 servers.

right... so you end up having unequal usage on your AB power which is fine if you have plenty of head room but our cage is pretty dense. we try to get close to the 16 amp(8+8) running load as possible on all our racks.

virtualization is the next big thing if it isnt already. everybody wants a piece of it now.

I'm a Civil Engineer in the Air Force. Suffice it to say, I don't see many gun fights, thank heavens. I may see some convoy action though.
