WoW movie...?

“Today at BlizzCon 2007 we have heard our first solid and interesting information with regards to the Warcraft, or to some, the World of Warcraft Movie. This movie will be big, huge in fact, Thomas Tull (producer of 300) stated a budget of over $100m would be committed, with a projected 2009 release date.

The plot for the film will take place approximately a year before the start of World of Warcraft, including races you have played and lands you have wandered in, where lots of plot arcs are melded into a two and a half hour story. The film itself will revolve around a 'badass' new hero, with a theme towards conflict and culture - being a War Movie rather than a quest movie, from an Alliance's perspective.

Sad. Of all the MMOs that should have a movie, it should be FFXI, nothing else comes close to it's story.

Although I am tempted to smudge over the lights on that picture and call it Dynamis - Windurst.

I've always wondered how an online Final Fantasy didn't just stomp out the competition, but it's Blizzard we're competing with so... w/e


I do like the Warcraft (series as a whole) story line, but I'd much rather see any of the FF games (from 4 and on) made into a movie.


Also I'd like to point out that a Gears of War movie is officially in the works

The problem with the Final Fantasy movies is that they weren't based on the games. They made up their own storylines. AC was rather successful, but it was still an original creation for the most part.

Just put up CoP or FF8 on a big screen.

What do FF movies have to do with a WoW movie being as bad as some think it will be?

Also, both FF movies were pretty good, and the only thing that made Spirits Within dissapoint some fans was because we were expecting something related to existing games (mostly VII). However, the movie itself (without expectations taken into consideration) was good.

I just hope SE releases it on Blu-ray along with Advent Children complete.

I was just going to say that same thing, Mal.

I think, though, that doing a FFXI-related video game, as nice as it would be, wouldn't do all that well since majority of the population don't know the entire storyline, and to make it into a movie would probably ruin it for them. The only option would be to make something not covered by an existing storyline (as AC did), and with WotG, that cancels out just about anything they had left.

Notice, the movie in the OP takes place a year before the game does, probably for the same reason I just said.

If Advent Children isn't the best video-game based movie ever, please tell me what is.

I've seen a lot of video game movies that were passable - like maybe Tomb Raider or the first Mortal Kombat - but by and large video game movies have been absolute trash with the exception of Advent Children.

But then, the people who were involved with FFVII made Advent Children, so you were in for a good ride from the start. Most game movies are handled by people that never played or don't understand the source material.

I still cringe each time I hear about a Metroid movie, it still hasn't happened and I hope it never does. Metroid is fine as a game.

As long as Hillary Duff (sp?) isn't Samus (or some other tard actress -_-) I'll be happy.

I'm thinking Milla Jovovich. She's probably one of the only ones off the top of my head who could pull it off.
