    Re: iPhone post

To the people that <strike>wasted their money</strike> bought an iPhone, can you add apps to it? if you can't, I definitely see no real advantage to it over an N800, other than the fact that you don't have to carry around a phone.

Application extensibility is done with AJAX applications running in Safari. So no, you do not add applications locally, but you are not really limited to just the applications it shipped with.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

Well, are those apps just opened in Safari, like flash games, or are they able to be stored on the phone itself?

          AJAX means webapps.

            So then it's like flash.

Are they able to be downloaded and stored on the phone, though? In the same way that you can save an html page like a text file, though not many do

No, flash is a horrible discusting bloated POS. AJAX apps should be significantly better and faster, while doing more. AJAX apps can include flash as an output, but action script and pretty images are not the drivers. For instance, Google Maps is not flash, neither is YouTube, even though the actual videos are presented as flash.

AFAIK the iPhone does also support flash though.

I don't believe so no, at least not beyond your normal web browser cache. You only keep contacts, calendar, email, music and videos on the device itself and that is all synced through iTunes.

Ah. Well iTunes would be the killer for me. It's sad, there are iPod apps for just about anything you could want in linux, hell, there's even a rather neat version of linux that runs *on* an iPod, but iTunes and the iTMS itself isn't there.

Hmm. 525,000 units in three days, with at least $200 gross profit cleared per iPhone, that means Apple made about $105 million gross profit in the first three days of iPhone sales on a revenue of at least $262.5 million ... @_@

Not bad for a company which has never released a phone before, though I suspect it has already spent that $105 million on advertising.

                      Re: iPhone post

Some answers about the iPhone or the "Jesus phone" as some call it. (I dunno who calls it that.)

It can't play flash. Nothing in flash works. You might ask, hey! how come youtube works on the iPhone since it runs in flash? because Google is re-encoding all the videos into apple's H.264 format just for the iPhone.

WiFi works really well. Whenever I walk to a place and stop, I always try to check my phone to see if I can hop onto anyone's network for free. The Photos that it takes are "so so" compared to a beautiful Cannon Rebel XT.

There is a current issue (as of this writing) with gmail being used on the iPhone. I always get a copy of the e-mail I sent out sent back to me. Not sure why, all the options for sending myself a CC is selected as off. So not sure why it's happening. No errors sending e-mail out with yahoo.com's mail.

                      Annoyances:
                      1) no copy and paste, no cut and paste.
                      2) gmail sending glitch
                      3) no select and highlight text. This is really dumb. I can't delete things when there's too much to delete! I have to old down the delete key!
                      4) no video recording

All iPhone Apps run off of the websites as stated earlier.

Anything that you've seen in the commercials, it can do. it may not be totally accurate, (like finding a pizza place near your house, your map has to be focused on your house) You can bookmark your addresses, and so forth. Driving directions are there as well. If you have problems putting your address in, try removing the street DIRECTION. i.e. north main street.

umm anything else I need to answer? Feel free to ask. I've had no issues syncing in with windows. I had no contacts in my outlook, so I manually put every phone number in and address and so forth.

(I posted this on my computer, not my iPhone.)
