      Well, corn doesn't have much fructose (as far as I know), but HFCS has plenty. How much chemical processing is enough to make something "artificial"?

          It does. You take a lot of corn starch (corn has lots of this) and break it down to its component monosaccharides. (IIRC, that should be some glucose and fructose molecules) and then having the enzymes alter the glucose into fructose and the result is a viscus fructose syrup. Remove some of the water and you've increased the amount of fructose by volume and you then have a high fructose corn derived syrup.

          Edit: What does this have to do with movie piracy? How did this happen?

              Personally I go for Twizzlers or Sour Patch Kids. Pop corn gets cold half way through the movie.

                I generally smuggle in my own candy. I just can't justify $4 for some sno caps.

                  I can't help it when I'm jonsing for Twizzlers. I don't think they sell Sno Caps anymore around here...

                  I guess this whole pop corn thing doesn't affect me.

                    Meh, only time i buy snacks is if i'm really hungry or have a craving to mix popcorn and nachos with sour patch. Theaters still sell sno caps last i checked. =x

                    And for personal shopping day bit, Border Rewards, where you get one at least once or twice a month depending how often you go to borders.

                      From Wikipedia:
                      High-fructose corn syrup is produced by milling corn to produce corn starch then processing that corn starch to yield corn syrup that is almost entirely glucose, and then adding enzymes that change the glucose into fructose.
                      It's the enzymes which convert glucose to fructose, if I read that correctly. Not exactly natural, to me...

                      Not sure; I had a minor rant against those food labels which imply HFCS is somehow natural while responding to BBQ's coment on soft drinks, and you picked up on that.

                      Movie piracy isn't a terribly interesting topic, anyway. I like soda pop, more.

                      * * *

                      While I dislike pirates, I don't have a lot of sympathy for the motion pictures industry, and no respect for fools who think movie piracy would seriously dent the profitability of corn growing.

                          I just get music from http://www.allofmp3.com.
                          I never understood why people would rather buy something illegally rather than just torrent it.

                              Don't go to FYE or whatever. Hit the local Best Buy, since they buy in bulk they can offer discounts, not to mention they sell things on rotation for $9 from time to time. If that doesn't work, as mentioned above, find an independent store. They will cost $12-17 typically since they can't really buy in bulk, but they are great if the major places are overcharging or won't carry your bands. I have one around here that I just love. They carry some of the older things I like, and some of the indie things that really don't make it out into the big market like Tsunami Bombs split, Action Design.

                                NBC...of all people. I'm so speechless, I'm spreading this to other places so people can read about the levels of desperation and stupidity some people can achieve.
