  • Ninja skill - Do you have it?

    I'm feeling nostalgic and a bit bored. Anyone has some decent Ninja readings?

    Historically accurate material preferred; historical Japanese fictional inventions are OK. (Hollywood style "NINJA ARMY" featuring uniform wearing minions all wearing dumb masks getting in the way of breathing? No thanks.)

    To start off, I'll contribute one: Ninja skill - Do you have it?
    Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
    yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
    Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
    leaving no trace in the water.

    I believe "ninpou" is the correct term for Ninja Arts. "Jutsu" specifically means technique. ^^b

    I'll post some Ninja stuff soon as I can dig it up. I Ninjas.

    In the mean time, try this for Ninja hilarity:

      Anyone know something about "Ninjitsu," where you learn how to throw bags filled with flower in your enemys face?

      Edit: It does sound a little weird, it's not a joke though.

      In wilderness is the preservation of the world.

        Not sure about that. In English, when speaking of "martial arts", it normally means a system of techniques (strikes, grappling moves, blocks, forms/katas, breathing, meditation, etc.) associated with fight training. If that's the kind of "arts" you are referring to, I think "ninjutsu" covers it.

        According to Jim Breen's WWWJDIC:

        忍術 【にんじゅつ】 (nin.ju.tsu): "ninjutsu (fighting art of the ninja); ninja skills in secrecy, stealth and combat techniques".

        忍法 【にんぽう】 (nin.pou): "ninja arts". However, the 法 【ほう】 (hou) part means law or act. You can also say it means "Ninja Laws" or more lossely, the "Ways of Ninja" or "Ways of Ninjutsu".

        Since ninjutsu's meaning is so inclusive, it's hard to say where it ends and ninpou begins without help from someone with more Japanese ability than myself.

        I know about caustic powders in egg shells, but the flower in bag one is new to me.

        And, not sure if "ninjitsu" is a real word; it's probably a corruption of "ninjutsu" by non-Japanese speakers.

            Hmm. I'm not really looking for ninja related humor, but other people may find it entertaining. ^_^;

              Maybe that was the term for "ninja magic" then, I'm not 100% sure but I do know it is a real word.

              Fun Fact: The proper wording for "Shadow Clones" would be "Kage bunshin no jutsu"

                What? See, that's what I'm interested in, the hallucinogenic powders and various other powders, concoctions, liquids, etc...
                btw, how would you go about making the powder?

                    I think he means like ground flowers. Certain flowers have fun properties.

                      I'd buy pepper power from the grocery store and fine grind them. >_> Toss in some moisture absorbent packages (from food packages), then seal them. Better yet, just get some pepper spray instead.

                      Would skip hallucinogens, though. Need to reliably disable opponents, not make them "farrrr out~".
