I think I'd like Calamari Pizza... Especially the tentacle part. The particular culinary device featured in the picture above looks a tad on the greasy side for my tastes.. Why would you even bother with the pizza part? The crust has enough food in it to feed that whole family.
Just my opinion, but I think it looks disgusting... Now, I'd love to see a calamari or octopus pizza, provided said seafood delights were properly cooked and don't taste like vulcanized rubber....
Imaginary (possibly not for long) Fruitti de Mare Pizza:
Calamari (sliced fresh with tentacles partially cooked)
Mussels (pre-steamed and shelled)
Possibly add/substitute your favorite crustacean/bivalve/echinoderm
Green Onions, Scallions (or maybe Leeks)
Fresh Oregano
20%/80% mix of Parmesan/Mozzarella (shredded, Don't buy the "powder" Parmesan--Use part-skim Mozzarella for pizza--the heavy stuff doesn't "work" quite right, and hard cheese goes well with FDM).
I'd probably put a bit of lemon and horseradish in the pizza sauce or make a pesto-like sauce (no pine nuts) with lime or maybe just some garden-variety cocktail sauce. I wouldn't lay it on too thick though...
Since FDM usually cooks lightning fast, you'll have to pre-cook the crust... 20-25 minutes in the oven will destroy your squid... If you have one of those commercial pizza ovens that does a thin crust in like 3 minutes though, you might be good to go...
They make pizza like this at an Italian Restaurant in Batavia, IL that I always forget the name of... Awesome pizza though. I can't remember if they serve in-shell mussels on it or not (it's been awhile).
