    Re: Revsiting the Allakhazam/IGE issue.

I think Taskmage summed up the situation nicely. The buyout was a very poor decision whether they had planned on exploiting the two or not. The admins spent more time trying to stop discussion of the issue than just coming clean and addressing concerns. In the end all the 'big changes' that were supposedly going to happen as result of the sell out never seemed to happen. And as others have said, the community is already considered the 'ghetto' of the FFXI forums, while other sources of information far better have taken up player needs.

Also I am curious if SE's RMT measures have made selling gil less profitable which explains the IGE sell off, or if all the new competition for selling gil has had a similar effect as well...

      Re: Revsiting the Allakhazam/IGE issue.

Hmm. I wasn't really looking for a critique of Allakhazam's content or "atmosphere". Suffice to say that it is a popular--and thus important--gathering spot for FFXI players, and its standings with RMT, S-E, and the players warrant close examinations.
      Ahhh, k, gotcha now.

Well, I can't find it right now, but I do remember a link that somone on my LS website posted about the history of IGE and it's founders. Now as with many things on the internet, I do not know if it is 100% accurate, and of course my memory may be faulty, but if it is, then there have been past instances of IGE (and whatever it was called before IGE) being "bought out/selling out" to another gold selling company, that just so happened to be run by a former partner. And unless I am mistaken, this "Jon Yantis" IS a former partner of IGE, or if not he was a partner of the company before they were known as IGE.

So if that is true, I would not trust the fact that Allakhazam is now owned by a new company, it seems like the same old crab, but a new shell (sorry for the insults to crabs, couldn't think of a better analogy).

Even if that wasn't the case, I don't know if I would trust them anyway, I really dislike the way that whole mess when they announced selling out to IGE was handled.

I wouldn't say the response was a bad as "f*** off", but many other dissenters of that era may have perceived it as such in the heat of discussions.
I don't think it was as bad as "f*** off", but I feel the difference was so minimal that you'd be splitting hairs.

Another issue for me was the premium accounts. It was one thing when those accounts were to keep Allakhazam independant and to in fact, avoid being bought out. Yet even after they were bought out it was still presented as, "get a premium account and help keep Allakhazam running!"

Well, Moyer can say he nor Allakhazam was not affiliated with IGE, but I will point out that IGE would not have spent, what was it, 2+ million? On a site that they did not expect to make money on, it just wouldn't happen. Somehow or other IGE expected to profit from buying out Allakhazam, which as far as I am concerned means that Allakhazam is/was supporting IGE.

I think that it's kinda like the U.S supplying Britain during WW1 and waving the neutral observer flag at the same time to the Germans. You can't support something and claim to be neutral at the same time.

And now, back to the comfy chair, this time with an afghan! *Purrrrrrrrrrr*

      EDIT:

      Found the link:

      Haven't reread it yet though.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.

Why do you call Moyer "CEO"?
Last I checked, he owned Allakhazam. No idea what has happened since the merger, and I don't really care.
