In the end I don't think it mattered considering some of the people he killed. He went after professors and students alike. Sadly I think once it started he just killed who he could but I doubt we'll ever really know.

Glad to see you're ok Mog. Sorry if you lost anyone you know.

      Re: My alma mater...

From the reports I've read, including the ones posted on Virginia Tech's official website, this douche bag just randomly targeted whomever he could before killing himself. It sounds like he may have gone after 2 people intentionally at first, but after that it was just random firing.

To quote something I read earlier today, "If money is the root of all evil, why does the church beg for it?"

Somehow I hear the same argument atheists use all the time.

              Re: My alma mater...

Atheists who are atheist just because they dislike/disagree with the church are non-conformist in the same way that emos are.

As an atheist myself, I have to say, it's a (non...) spiritual decision. It has nothing to do with my opinion of the church. I know plenty of people that disagree with their religion to some point, I have family members from two churches that some people would consider 'extreme' (7th Day Adventists and Jehovah's Witness'), and to some extent, i'd agree with them. But it's their choice, if they're happy with it, and they're not hurting anyone, let them do it. I imagine that most Christian Americans do not attend church weekly, and quite a few never attend, or only attend for special services, such as holidays.

Whatever you think about organized religion should have no effect on your personal beliefs. Don't let other people influence what you think... in a 'going with the flow' way, OR a 'being different for the sake of being different' way.

...Well, i've gone off topic. In other news, someone actually had the nerve to put fart jokes in the wikipedia article =/ really losing faith in humanity the way people act on there.

Is there really a time where fart jokes are inappropriate?

yeah, any time after 7th grade.

Seriously, the "Asian kid went on a killing spree, must've gotten a B." jokes were actually kinda funny, replacing someone's name with "poop" isn't.

Making any kinda joke about this is lame. Some jokes are funny, some are screwed up and uncalled for.

                      Stick to poop jokes please.

                        Re: My alma mater...

Now that fat director will make a movie about this, just like he did with Columbine.
Now Newgrounds will have a new category called, "Virginia Tech".
Now America will be more fearful of school shootings.
Now people will grief of lost ones.

All because of one person... :/ Well that's my two cents.

It's not like everything coming out of this is bad. I just won't list the good things because it would make me seem like a bastard.

                                Re: My alma mater...

From the stories of his creative writing, it sounds like he was a pretty messed up kid.

I think it's unfair to say that anything caused this culturally. It's ridiculous to think that because of this or that, he thought it was ok to go around shooting people. If he thought what he did was ok, he wouldn't have killed himself. From his writing attacking religious groups and rich people, and the words "you made me do this," it seems like he chose this evil act as an attack on a group of people he felt had wronged him, or perhaps to send them some kind of message.

Gun culture I feel is wrong to blame too. Guns aren't the only things that can kill people. If someone's crazy and wants to kill people, he'll find a way to do it. Based again on his writing, I think the guy would've taken just as much pleasure in beating people's heads in with hammers or mutilating them with a chainsaw. If you really want, I suppose you can blame guns for the death count being 30 instead of 10 for being damnably efficient weapons, but a murderer is a murderer.

People just snap sometimes, for whatever reason. This kid wasn't a terrorist; he had no higher agenda or purpose; he just reached such a level of misery that he decided to lash out and inflict it to others before ending it for himself. Maybe somebody should have reached out to him and tried to help him before he reached that point, but ultimately it's nobody's fault what he did. Everyone is responsible for their own actions. With the shooter dead, there's no one to meaningfully blame or bring to justice. Nothing to do but grieve for the dead and take stock of the value of our own lives.
