    Re: yay hospital trip -.-

I'd have to advise against using an AOL trial. They'll most likely request your CC, and when it comes time to cancel...well, let's just say AOL's customer service is so bad, i've heard people advise against using them at all. Just because of CS.

Anyway, the chances of you having a dedicated phone line are fairly low.. not to mention, since the hospital probably pays a fee for usage, either that fee will be passed along to you (Read: Crazy expensive), or they'll probably be very angry with you.

It should go without saying that people with power over what happens to your body are not people you want to make angry.

If you absolutely must play, you have much better luck in finding a wifi connection.

I read about that. She was worried about getting fired and set off a fire that ended up killing 5 people. Whoops. So much for that letter of recommendation.

As far as wi-fi or broadband at the hospital, it's unlikely. Wireless stuff is usually frowned on to begin with due to a lot of the electronics. Then again with the world advancing as it has been, who knows. Good luck with it though. Maybe if worse comes to worse maybe you can get them to roll you to a best buy or some wi-fi hotspot. >.> Any estimates on how long you'll be stuck in there?

Could be few days, could be a few weeks. I do hope there's a wifi hotspot, I just got Chocobo Tales for DS. Online card battles, SE should make a version of it for FFXI.

No call back in regards to when I'm going yet.

I know that some hospitals have wifi nodes all over them... Unfortunately, they're usually just for the people who work there--their little PDAs and other devices need to be constantly connected to the network. Some places won't even let you turn on your cell phone though, so I don't quite know what that's about. It might depend on where you're at in the hospital.

Good luck, and you might want to bring some offline games just in case, and make sure they put you with a roommate that has the ability and inclination to operate a game controller. Arthritic Ol' Grandma Barker may have a thing or two to say about electronics, but she's probably not very good at Tekken.

The using your mobile thing is a scam (cellphone to you in the US). In england the rule banning mobiles has been lifted in all areas bar x-ray and intensive care. The main reason for the ban was to force people to use the new patient line service installed in many hospitals around the UK, were a company gets a proffit out of you for phone calls and TV access while your ill. Now that this has been made public (especially after they icnreased the cost of phoning out from 10p (20c) to 26p (52c) a minute and people who phone you get charged 42p (84c) a minute. The whole "it will effect equipment" speach is a load of bollocks in normal areas i.e. wards in the hospital. Look at doctors running around with pagers and Dect phones, surprise surprise they use the same technology as a mobile, so why can they use them and not the public?

A bit of advice BBQ, in the UK you can buy a PCIM card from a mobile phone company and pay a monthly fee of around £30 a month and you can access the net via the mobile network at no extra cost. (T-mobiles web and walk package is one here in the UK) Something like that may work, espeically (though i hope you don't have to)you expect to have many other stays in hospital.

They have data cards and plans available for most carriers in the US as well. It would be a sufficient solution for web browsing. For FFXI though it probably wouldn't work too well and would most likely be prohibitively expensive.

You can also attach many advanced cellular phones and other devices to your equipment via a USB cable. Unfortunately, I don't think they can hook up to a PS2 since it usually requires a special driver. I believe most cellular carriers have similar rates for the data service at probably $60-$80 per month. I would not advise trying to use cellular modem/broadband service from your phone without contacting your provider first, however. Most providers leave the feature "open" on the phone so you can use it, but it will consume your minutes and/or may have a "per kilobyte" charge associated with it. Make sure to ask your provider about unlimited data packages and compatibility with PS2.

In a pinch, if you have a laptop of some kind, you could use it as a pass-through router and connect a Peer-to-Peer cable to the PS2.

lol speaking of leaving the game, my wife is going out of town next week. she just came to the troubling realization that she was leaving her three chocobos in my care. I'm sure I can't damage them too much in that time but I guess we'll see.

On the original topic, I agree with bbq. It's astounding how you hound people for months to do things only to find out it happened while you were gone.

                              Good luck at the hospital.

Word from the wise don't wander towards the birthing area...high hormonal women having contractions, wearing prolly nothing but a gown and socks and draging a IV of fluids...that isn't a good mix for unexpected run-ins thru the hallway...they get as angry as a Jewish person not having any Kosher food at dinner time... >.< Also make sure you speak clearly and with the right words...Like a man once walked in wanting to be casturized when the word he really wanted was CURCIMCISED lol good luck and remember there's people here thinking of you and wishing for a safe return.
