    The yellow layer on top of the fish is cooking oil.... with nothing between the oil and the water.
    It's said that as long as the fish don't swim above the water, it will be safe. o_O;

    Those fish are going to die.

      Relax. It's not really an aquarium. Even if it were, the life expectancy of the fishes wouldn't be very long if they keep eating...um...well, greasy residue. By the way, Mhurron, the chick from your avatar is hot. What's her name so I can google up some pics?

          That's pretty gross, really. Even if it's not really a combo aquarium/deep fat fryer.

            Got to admit though that the actual intended purpose is very smart. I mean not having hot oil explode on you if you were to put water in it, then also all the junk get filtered into the water below.

            Yeah, it would seem the fish would die because the chemical balance there has to be way off for a fish and not to mention oxygen.

              Not only that but the heat that would be conducted from geting the fat to anywhere near the temperature needed to deep fry would boil the water below it quite quickly. Good little spoof though.

                  Well think that would depend wouldn't it? I mean if it isn't just water, but something added to the solution then I would think that it could probably take more before boiling. Still though the heat that the water would be getting from the oil above would seem to make it too hot for a fish to live in.

                    I'm not exactly a chemist, but I don't think it would be possible just by introducing a solute to push the boiling point of water up an additional 150-200 degrees to the temperatures we normally use for oil frying. The introduced chemical, if I remember my high school at all, would have to have an incredibly strong bond with the water molecules, and probably preclude any oxygen entering the solution for the fish to breathe.

                    Maybe it would work if there was a third fluid, with a very high specific heat and a density between that of the oil and water. I dunno if such a chemical exists.

                    At any rate, that's a hell of a morbid and groty place for a fish to live.

                      Yeah, either there's something seperating that water, or fish gonna die.

                      Why don't we stick to toilets with fish tanks on the back? (Actually saw this on TV.)

                        The fish were demonstration though to show there is a solution there. From the video it looked like the fish were breathing hard, so I doubt they were getting much oxygen.

                        No, the video shows a closeup of the oil and water line. There is nothing separating it.

                        The video even shows the fishing swimming around while the fryer is on, so the water obviously isn't that hot. They are pretty lively looking with the exception of one that looks like it is breathing hard. Even shows that the oil is at 162.3.

                            Oh. Huh. Sorry, I hadn't actually watched the video so I thought this was some kind of prank or novelty. I can't imagine how they're keeping that water cool enough to be livable, much less a liquid state. If it is in fact in contact with the grease, it just seems like too much heat would conduct through. There has got to be something else at work there. They even do a demonstration at the end of the video where they throw water and ice into the 162 degrees celsius water and it doesn't explode. How is that possible?
