  • Table Top RPGs

DnD, GURPs, d20 Modern, whatever is your poison.

Anyone play them? I'm just curious.

I'm actually hard at work shaping an "Iron Heroes" game to be set in Vana'diel. Doing things like finding/crafting the right magic system, stating up monsters from the game, and making feat chains to represent some of the memorable/important jobs(DRG jumps, DRG wyvern, DRK sacrificial curses, ect).

I used to quite a bit. But it's been years, and now I don't know anyone who plays (save folks online). So I don't. Wish I still did though.

Dungeons & Dragons, as well as Starwars d20 curently. Used to also play World of Darkness before they fragged the rule system. Still play some clasic Vampire for World of darkness occasionally.

        Re: Table Top RPGs

I've played quite a large variety of Pen and Paper RPGs in the past. Have not done much in perhaps seven years, though.

        Stuff I have played:
D&D (everything from Basic through d20)
Vampire, Changeling and Mage from World of Darkness (though if you've played one you've basically played them all as far as rules go, for the most part aside from special powers).
        Paranoia
        Ars Magica
        GURPS
        RIFTS
        Champions
        Star Wars (non d20 version)
        Shadowrun
        In Nomine
        Call of Cthulu
...plus probably a dozen less well-known titles like Aeon Trinity, Dream Park, Albedo, Amber, Rolemaster, etc. that I can't otherwise remember off-hand.

Of them, I think my favorites would have to be Ars Magica (wizards in Medieval Europe), In Nomine (angels and demons fighting for the souls of humanity), and Paranoia (tongue-in-cheek dystopian humor at its best).

EDIT: Oh, I can't leave out the best tabletop RPG ever invented, which is Land of Og, published by Wingnut Games. If you hate how unoriginal or stupid some of the people you play tabletop RPGs are, start playing this game and you'll never notice the difference. It's much harder to fault someone's stupid roleplaying when your character knows a sum total of two words.

What a bunch of geeks, I don't know why I hang out here.

Personally, I've never had a chance to play a tabletop RPG.

Actually, I do know why I hang out here

I've read about all those pen and paper RPGs before but they all sound waaay too... I dunno. I think I wouldn't be able to play because I'd be too busy laughing at the whole thing.

"Magic missile" and "I'm attacking the darkness" would just pop on my head every minute making it even harder to take the game seriously.

It would be interesting to try one out though.

I used to play a few, but havn't in ages. The closest thing you could get to a tabletop RPG these days without needing an antique game & other players are roguelike games. One I play kinda reguarly is ADOM, it still uses the 1d6 system =D

I've actually played most of the ones Icemage has. Neat! In middle/high school my friends and I were really into tabletop RPGs. Of course, MMOs didn't exist then, so that may have had something to do with it.

It's a gaming experience that can't be duplicated online. Even with attacking the darkness and all that. I really miss it sometimes, but all of my friends would laugh me out of the room if I tried to get them to play.

I run an AD&D 2nd Edition game every week online. I have been for three years now.

2nd edition. That's what I spent the most time playing.

Me, too. Well, it's all I've ever really played. I grew up on it and stuck with it for over 11 years now. In fact, my FF11 character is based on my favorite AD&D character. Daos Soulstaff, half-elf mage.

But 99% of the time, I just DM. Nobody else ever wants to.

I only get to be a player online.

I don't know what people see in 2nd Ed, it's probably nostalgia... d20 is my favorite and its so easy to make new systems/monsters/house rules with.

I strarted with the Original D&D game and migrated through AD&D and finally to 2nd edition before I finally ran out of people to play with. I DMed most of that time.

I tinkered with a few other games but never really did much with them in a group.
