So they don't have enough food to feed their citizens, but they do have enough food to feed super sized rabbits to feed their citizens? I realize they're mainly lacking in the protein department right now, but do they have that much of a surplus of fresh vegetables?

            I wonder how they taste.

              Re: Jaggedy-eared Jack!

It's actually quite supprising how effective meat rabbits are at food production. It takes approximately 21 pounds of grain to produce 1 pound of beef, 9 pounds of grain for 1 pound of lamb, 6 pounds of grain for 1 pound of chicken, and 3 pounds of grain for 1 pound of rabbit.

because meat is approximately 4x more effective at providing protien and carbohydrates then protien-rich vegtables such as soy beans(and quite alot more for non-nutrient rich vegtables and grains that animals can matabilise about x3 better then humans, like millet and grasses), in theory switching to meat rabbits from grain will boost nutrient production about 6 times over. Because it dosn't matter how much food you eat, but how much nutriants you can matabolise from the food, this means that this is actually a very viable solution...

EDIT: In case anyone didn't understand what I said up above, the grain needed to feed 1 person can be converted into meat for 6 people via meat rabbits.

Interesting, I didn't actually know that.

Follow-up question for the Rabbit Sage
-What's the ratio of growing 1 60lb. rabbit compared to 10 6lb. rabbits?

I'd also be curious to find out how prone to disease these rabbits are. I know often times, that when people breed a much larger animal of the same species, it can make it more prone to sickness and disease.

I have no idea what the actual growth ratio of a 60 pound rabbit vs 6 pound rabbits would be, but I do know this:

The 10 rabbits would put on more meat quicker then the 60 pound rabbit, but the 10 rabbits would also consume more food. The reason for this is each rabbit needs to consume a certain amount of food to stay alive, not counting meat production(Basal Metabolic Rate if you want to look it up). The 60 pound rabbit would individually posess a BMR of about twice as much as a rabbit that gains a maximum of 6 pounds, but 10 of these rabbits would ovbiously consume more food the one super rabbit for their Basal Rate.

The reason the 60 pound rabbit can't keep up with the 10 other rabbits in terms of speedy meat production is their is a limit to how much meat a rabbit can put of per day. If a rabbit eats to much and dosn't get enough excersise, the rabbit will gain weight via fat, not meat, similar to a human couch potato.

As for the disease factor, i never had any of our rabbits get sick, but for maximum meat production a rabbit needs to be kept fit and excercise alot, which in addition to producing meat faster, keeps the rabbit healthy. If these rabits where unable to be kept in a healthy environment though, the sickness rate and lower meat production could actually make the plan backfire...

EDIT: I wonder if PiNG could change my title from "Member" to "Rabbit Sage". Certainly would provide a laugh.
