BAGHDAD, Iraq - Three years after he was hauled from a hole in the ground by pursuing U.S. forces, Saddam Hussein was hanged Saturday under a sentence imposed by an Iraqi court, al-Hurra TV, al-Arabiya and Sky News TV reported.

It can't be taken back but what's everyones thoughts on it? Everyone's heard "Cut of the head and the body dies"...maybe not for this instance...i think the body might just fight back harder...

I shed no tears. I opposed the war in Iraq as being wasteful, but bringing Saddam Hussein to justice has never been a negative feature of the process.

Won't change anything really. I think it was necessary and I was all for it, though.
I am curious if 20, 15, or even 10 years ago, if he thought in his wildest dreams that he'd die at the hands of the people he'd oppressed for years and years. Hell, I wonder if his downfall ever crossed his mind mere weeks before we initially attacked.

        No, it probably didnt...

I Dont think it will change anything except for morals. He was killed to set as an example. By the Iraqi people I might add; so they cant blame this on us whatsoever (US)

Also, about setting an example, Wasnt it a national Religious Holiday there?

I'm pretty sure the people will still blame the USA for it, regardless.

EDIT: In fact, this is the case.

well, I just checked my local news website and almost every major player country was against this; including the majority of us.

They said it was stupid to kill him and giving him "Life" would have been better for the Country...But can you blame them?

this man killed many people, tortured people, and oppressed them for years...I understand the people's reaction, so should everyone else...I mean, let FRANCE be in oppression for years...and see what they think :/ (France is one of the top countries against This)

What ever happened to EMPATHY in this world? Whatever...I just know All Hell is about to break loose...>.>

no, but he was symbolic and either gonna cause of these two:

piss alot of people off and go on a Political/Military rampage, OR give people a reason to do whatever they evil they had planned on doing. (An excuse in other words)

I mean, you see how many people were against it right? hell, it might be so bad; US might have loss some friends :/

                  (minuscule ones anyway.)

Well, it wasn't US that decreed the killing in the first place, it was a judge in Iraq that (I think) had nothing to do with US.

                      Surprise!
Seriously, they'd blame us for the dinosaur extinction if they thought people might buy it. America is predominantly Judeo-Christian. They hate us just because and will blame anything and everything on us if they think it will help their cause.
But they kinda right, if it wasn't for us, he'd still be in power committing acts of genocide on his own people on a daily basis. Damn us Americans.

Oh, and my idea was to just put him in general population in Sand Quentin or somewhere. Would have atleast spared him from a government sanctioned capital punishment.

I think the most interesting thing is that the Republican Party, Ronald Regan, Dick Cheney, George Bush Sr., and a whole bunch of Social Register Caviar Eaters used to be all chummy-chummy with the guy until he gave the Iraqi oil contracts to France, Germany, and Russia...excluding the US. There was some sort of US/Israeli consortium involving none other than the Bechtel Corporation (who's now running the show) to get oil piped from Iraq through Israel and into tankers on the Med...

Now he's dead. Score one for the big oil boys.

Don't say those things, most US citizens can't even imagine most of these "we are fighting for freedom!" stuff are only about the economic interests in their goverment's agenda.

Take over and bring "freedom" to countries where the US has big interests on has been standard procedure since long time ago.

Seriously, whoever thinks the US is fighting for justice and freedom is either way too naive or just chooses to close their eyes and take anything the goverment tells them.

Simply because they can't handle that as any powerful empire their wealthy way of life is being supported by the death and suffering of millions that die and have died so their nation could have so much money and power.

Iraq isn't the brightest of ideas, but look at it this way, it kept all those terrorist out of our backyard. So we don't have to worry about our friends and family getting blown to bits while going to the local quickie mart to get a cart of milk.
