I'm in the process of re-designing my site, for that reason i would like to get some feedback from you guys, seeing as we all have somewhat similar tastes, we all visit forums, and we all spend some time online.

So if i may bother you for a minute, could you answer me some of these questions?

    Gaming:

    1. Do you check for info on games on the net?

    2. If so, can you give me a couple links you visit more often? Or do you use google or other SEngines? If not, disregard this question.

    3. If so, how often? If not, disregard this question.

    a) Daily

    b) Couple of times per week

    c) Nothing worth mentioning

    d) I check info from titles I already know, I dont particularly hunt for news, I get to know of new titles by other means, like my friends or by random browsing the net, like forums and whatnot

    e) Other (specify please)

    4. Do you like games all around, or would you say you have a love for a special genre/series that makes it worthwhile for you to have a community devoted to that genre/series?

    General:

    1. Do you happen to frequent music/movies/games related community websites?

    2. Do you happen to frequent websites of generic content? Those that have no unique genre, but are unique in a way where they allow any sort of discussion and topic? Both in website content and forum discussions?

    3. Do you frequent "myspace" type websites? Like livejournal, myspace, blogger, etc?

    4. In regards to the previous question: Do you have accounts on all of them, none of them, some of them, or only one of them?

    5. Are you into design and art websites? Like deviantart, flickr, sxc, etc, and do you frequent them often?

    6. Are you into webdesign and programming for the web in a general way?

    7. Do you have your own website?

    8. If so, do you have plans to expand it, or is it just a casual hobby, or none of both? If not disregard the question.

    Thanks for the time :-3

I am asking these questions because i have been pondering the re-design of my website, to give more incentive for people to come there, and because we all grow up and move on, to deliver content casually but still interestingly enough for mostly everyone.

The last and most important question of all:

    1. What is your opinion in regards to the direction of online communities, and what do you believe keeps a community alive, what sort of content, what types of interaction, what sort of crowd, etc?

    Thanks guys

    Gaming:

    1. Do you check for info on games on the net? Yes

    2. If so, can you give me a couple links you visit more often? Somepage, FFXIclopedia, Titanicus, FFXI-Atlas, GameFAQs

    3. If so, how often? If not, disregard this question.

    a) Daily

    4. Do you like games all around, or would you say you have a love for a special genre/series that makes it worthwhile for you to have a community devoted to that genre/series? Generally, I'm an all arounder. I am kinda stuck in MMO mode right now, though.

    General:

    1. Do you happen to frequent music/movies/games related community websites? Game related, yes.

    2. Do you happen to frequent websites of generic content? Those that have no unique genre, but are unique in a way where they allow any sort of discussion and topic? Both in website content and forum discussions? No

    3. Do you frequent "myspace" type websites? Like livejournal, myspace, blogger, etc? No

    4. Do you have accounts on all of them, none of them, some of them, or only one of them? None - (I assume that this is in reference to #3)

    5. Are you into design and art websites? Like deviantart, flickr, sxc, etc, and do you frequent them often? Nope and No.

    6. Are you into webdesign and programming for the web in a general way? Not really, just stuff for myself.

    7. Do you have your own website? If you want to include a page with a bunch of links that I use for myself, sure.

    8. If so, do you have plans to expand it, or is it just a casual hobby, or none of both? If not disregard the question. No expansion planned.

The last and most important question of all:

    1. What is your opinion in regards to the direction of online communities, and what do you believe keeps a community alive, what sort of content, what types of interaction, what sort of crowd, etc? I think online communities are great, as long as there is a common interest shared by all. As long as the people who run the site stick to their original beliefs (Zam), and the subject matter has a "revolving door" for information to flow. As FFXI has been out for years now, but this site is still going strong, as SE brings out new subjects for us to discuss, and new users can ask "old" questions. I believe the key is to have an open mind and allow it to flow the way it wants to go.

        1. Do you check for info on games on the net?
Yes I use IGN (internet games Network) this includes games films etc and I use their newsletter to notify me by email on latest releases and also can favourite games where they email me on any news on that particular game.

        2. If so, can you give me a couple links you visit more often? Or do you use google or other SEngines? If not, disregard this question.
        See link in no 1.

        e) Other (specify please)
Newletter and chosen game specific news updates.

        4. Do you like games all around, or would you say you have a love for a special genre/series that makes it worthwhile for you to have a community devoted to that genre/series?

I like RPG and simulation games and am a community member here and on the SC4 forum, but other games don't float my boat

        General:

        1. Do you happen to frequent music/movies/games related community websites?
Not really only this one and SC4.

        2. Do you happen to frequent websites of generic content? Those that have no unique genre, but are unique in a way where they allow any sort of discussion and topic? Both in website content and forum discussions?

I normally frequent websites and forums on specific subject i.e. firefighting. Archicad and Design.

        3. Do you frequent "myspace" type websites? Like livejournal, myspace, blogger, etc?
        Nope I steer clear.

        4. In regards to the previous question: Do you have accounts on all of them, none of them, some of them, or only one of them?
        None.

        5. Are you into design and art websites? Like deviantart, flickr, sxc, etc, and do you frequent them often?
Not really more Architectural design related.

        6. Are you into webdesign and programming for the web in a general way?
Nope, know a little html but thats about it. No time!!

        7. Do you have your own website?
        No.

        8. If so, do you have plans to expand it, or is it just a casual hobby, or none of both? If not disregard the question.
        N/A

        Thanks for the time :-3

Online communities are ok as long as they have a goo moderating and administration cover. without them they becom full of spammers, pointless posts, flaming and in some cases grooming grounds for undesirables. (and that is put nicely). I beleive thepeople in communities keep them alive (no shit!) but you get my drift, there are alot of people who spend alot of their valuable time helping people out, and actually creating teh community itself, it brings people together from all backgrounds who all share a common interest. It is known that there are alot of less mature people about on all communities and it can be difficult to relate to them sometimes for us "older" members, but we try our best. The direction of communities is difficult to answer, it is a medium brought on by the internet and has reached its peak on how it can be used, next step would be a new medium, but thats difficult to predict.
