I have NEVER gone up to a girl out of the blue and asked her out (Most guys who do this usually get shot down).

Then you, my friend, are missing out. Back before I was married, a friend and I would go to various places to goof off, and getting shot down by random girls was the most fun of it all. We never got all bent up about it, because we didn't know these girls. It was just very funny to see it happen to each other, only to take the next one for the team.

I used to get dates all the time by asking someone out of the blue. Meanwhile, I'm very unlikely to date one of my friends.

I'm guessing Rodin is talking about one of those "asking a girl out of the blue" becoming something meaningful. I dunno about you guys but I never found a girl I wanted to "date" (notice the term being oh so loosely used) for more than 2 weeks that way.

Well, most of them turned into one night (or maybe a few days more than that) stands, but occassionally I managed to turn them into something lasting.

Heck, I've been in a relationship for four years now that started with us passing on a staircase, and me turning back to go and introduce myself. And we're still going strong.

Yeah, that's what I mean. If you want something meaningful, and long-term, then date a girl you've known for a while and see regularly. If you want to hit it and quit it, then by all means, go up to a random girl and start hittin on her. (Of course, it helps if they've been drinking, sad to say...). I've never asked a girl out on a date out of the blue, but I have started hitting on them and ended up getting a few phone numbers and nibbles on the ear.

The leaders of my LS met in game. Then they arranged and met in RL (both live in Canada) and now they live together in an apartment. So, it's not impossible to find a RL relationship in-game, but very unlikely and best left to fate (shouldn't play for the purpose of finding someone, but if you happen to....). Then they formed the LS and lead it as a couple.

I've had two sets of friends do this. The first technically met in EQOA (Everquest Online Adventures), and then came to FFXI when it launched here. But it wasn't until then that their relationship progressed to the next level. They eventually met in real life, and got married. They have now been together in like, Florida or something for a couple of years.

The other pair met in game, moved in together, and were engaged. But it didn't work out, and they eventually split.

i know theres a thread of couples but i just wanted to know if anyone else sees couples and feels all lonely ; ; everytime i see a couple i get all sad wanting to have someone (; - , anyone else feel that way?

Don't feel bad, guy. When you sit up late at night with a bottle of vodka in your hand for comfort, drinking to stave off the horrible feelings of loneliness, then you should start feeling bad. Barring any crippling social disorders that prevent you from talking to people you don't know you can easily find someone. Go out to a random social hangout spot, you'll meet a nice girl (or guy) who shares the same interests that you do. Who knows, you might find the coolest person to ever live!

PS-I apologize if I don't make sense, I'm rather drunk right now. Whee!

im really not trying to sound/be em but i dont really know anywhere to hang out cuse i dont have any rl friends atm ;x my oldest friend i ever had just blew up and so i dont talk to him anymore, so i just sit and play on ffxi wasteing my time hopeing for something to happen, i just need to know if theres any hope u.u

Okay, now I think you should take a break from FFXI, and get out there. Go to a football game, go to a baseball game at your school. Don't just stay indoors and play your life away on this game. If you don't have any friends you're going to be a vegetable who is looking for human interraction (IMO, one of the base necessities for sanity). You're going to end up acting our your human emotions through this game. If some mithra you like gets with another guy, you'll get jealous and end up having hatred for that person. I've seen it happen. People who are this much into the game can't "brush it off". Trust me, if you don't have any IRL friends, you need to find some people to chill out with. It's not easy making new friends, yet I've done it a lot b/c I moved around a lot in my childhood.
