    Re: LEAST favorite FFs?

But FFTA had the Cutest Moogles Ever!

The story was kind of lackluster, but I couldn't put it down. Play control + unbearably adorable playable moogles = win.

They did the same in Tactics. Just because you could fight something outside of the Garden you started in at lvl99 did not mean that you could level at a decent rate, since they still gave low exp. You also would have only had access to a very small subset of the magic available. If you really wanted to hit 99 in this lifetime, there were really only 2 places to go to. Where you started wasn't one of them.

The monsters leveling with you meant that you actually didn't have to stop to level to anything if you didn't want to. Every mob and boss would have been just as hard at lvl1 as lvl99 the only difference would have been the tools you acquired along the way. If all you were interested in was finishing, you never had to stop to get Bahamut or Eden, you didn't have to stop to get 99 Flares or Ultimas, you just played.

I enjoyed playing 8, though I disliked having a limited number of magic as opposed to MP, but I suppose that it was required to make the Junctioning system work.
You're not going to convince me. I hated 8. The only time I stopped drawing magic from the same old monsters is when they weren't offering anything new. I don't play any FF "just to finish" which made the game even worse, whereas it usually adds a lot.

And saying that you don't have to go anywhere new to level doesn't mean that I didn't go anywhere else to level. I don't know anybody that could stomach fighting crawlers all the way to 99 in the first area. But it was possible because they didn't give diminishing exp. It was a little compared to other things, but it didn't get less and less as you leveled. Just find something that did give large xp and fight that ad naseum.

Oh, and thank you to whoever brought up FF:CC. Worse than FF2 or any other. I actually played it with 3 friends, and whoever happened to get the map carried the chalice. They got shat on while everybody else killed things. The only thing worse than having the map and carrying the chalice, was NOT having the map and trying to carry the chalice. Just a bad idea.

My friend got 99 of all the magic except for Pain, Flare, Ultima, and possibly some ultimate curative magic through Triple Triad, refinement, and the things around Balamb Garden. Junctioning that magic allowed him to beat the game at level 4.

          Re: LEAST favorite FFs?

VII has been my favorite, and it was the game that really got me started hardcore into video games. In my experience, the people who started with VIII don't seem to like VII, or think that VIII is the greatest game every played.

FF:TA was really good, and because of it, FFT was enjoyable. I played Tactics back when it came out and hated it. Went back and played it after I beat FF:TA and I loved it.

IX was annoying at times. Unlimited amount of random battles, and much harder than previous game's random encounters. I was going broke at the start of the game because I couldn't afford potions, ethers, and Phoenix Downs. I also though the graphics for IX were a step down from VII and VIII.

X-2 wasn't a disgustingly horrible game, but it wasn't a very good one either. The only real fun I had in the game was learning all of the abilities.

So having to pick my least favorite of the man, I think I'll go with VIII. Of all them that I've played, that's the only one I haven't beat more than once.

            Re: LEAST favorite FFs?

X-2 hands down. While the story was good, the characters left a lot to be desired.

I just wanted to through that retarded pilot out of the airship.

As for VIII, I honestly loved it. As long as you didn't abuse the system, it was a challenging and quite fun game. The story was a little convoluted, but name a FF game that isn't.

And while I will not give anything away, the ending to VIII was unbelieveable.

I felt IX was a little out of line with the rest of the series. Up to that point, each game had a remarkably similar style and IX completely missed that. It was a good game though and may have been more accepted under it's own name and not as part of the FF franchise.

I haven't played X-2, or it may well top my list. I boycotted it.

And wasn't FF9 going to be a spinoff originally? That's what I heard anyway, that it was a throwback game, spunoff to be reminiscent of the old FFs.

I don't agree about the similar style not being present in 9. The feel and style of 1-6 seemed like one thing to me, and 7+8 seemed to be the exceptions to the rule. 9 felt like a return to form. Oh, and I boycotted 10 as well. I heard Wakka talk and refuse to play it.

                  Re: LEAST favorite FFs?

                  Hmm.. least favourite FF.

I liked pretty much all of them... but.. I had trouble getting into 6 for certain.

I loved 8, but that's just me, and I loved CC as well - we took our Four Swords group who were already masters at backstabbing each other and getting the Chalice seemed to be the ultimate in power trips, so it was a fight as to who carried it, and we *always* stayed close to our chalice bearer, as they could really screw us over if we got carried away (I think we had a decent group though - when we got together to practice Holyga's and Hastega's though it was awesome.

I liked and didn't at the same time 2, as the stat system annoys the crap out of me in the early game. You learn to deal way too much damage, in comparison to how much you take... but once you got your guys levelled up enough, the skillups come quick and fast.

IX was meh the first time round, but better the second. Don't know why I played it through after non enjoying it the first time.. but... whatever...

FFX-2.. wasn't that amazing. Probably my *least* of all of them.

                    Hm.

Its so sureshot.. if you like ff9, you dislike ff8, and vice versa. I rarely see someone who likes both completely

But thats me! i love both games, ff9 more than 8, the whole style of ff8 throws me a bit off, i like the sci-fi look but i ultimatly love the more classical looks of ff9, everyone hates zidane, much like everyone hates tidus.. theyre very alike, and guess what.. i like them, i the sort of person that takes things with an optimistic aproach and im very much liek those 2, some moments with zidane really meant alot to me in regards of the plot, he being very supportive of vivi, also by the middle of the game, at the time he realises he is surrounded by people who love him, and at the end, saving the "bad" guy's life... very enjoyable moments for me, and vivi is my favorite character of all time, he kept it all to himself and he still kicked butt... overall i enjoyed ff9 very much.

                    Carry on D:

4: The only FF I have but never beat. However, I only played the PSX rerelease that came with Chrono Trigger. The diffculty was insane. After 10 straight hours and 20+ lvls, I was still getting my but kicked. I had some SNES version friends play it; they all gave up on it too. ONLY redeaming factor was DRK Cecil (He has Souleater that hit every enemy on the screen for critical damage at sacrificing HP). Then he went PLD and became useless. Beyond useless.

9: There were no characters I liked. None that I could relate to. And the main bady...male stipper who tranced into a chicken (literally, he had feathers).

How did he do that? It seems that the natural course of the game would have progressed you past level 4.

Normal enemies can be killed with the Card command for no exp, which also turns them into magic, and bosses give no exp.

Edit: Rather, you can refine the resulting card into magic.

                              Re: LEAST favorite FFs?

Interesting, my least favorite.. Well I love VII as it was my first, VIII I enjoyed greatly too, though you could abuse the mechanics you can pretty much do that in any FF. I was happiest playing through the second time and beating that robot thingy at the start with double thunders and quetzacotl ^^

In playing FFI I was amazed. The world is huge for a NES game. The difficulty scales up beautifully. FFII was the strangest with its freeform job system. I was fascinated and frustrated by this. FFIV is just brilliant, especially how you start out as the bad guy ^^

FFTA is my current favourite, I play during breaks in FFXI (lfp, airship, that sorta thing). You gotta love them moogles! I thought tarus were the embodiment of cute - boy was I wrong!

I never finished IX or X, never played X-II or TA so I'll leave these alone, but I did like the feel of IX.

My least favorite? They were all my favourite at one time or another, but umm... its sooo hard to decide! I guess FFII, it didn't work for me quite as well as I or IV, but I still love it!

                                Final Fantasy VIII.

To be honest, it wasn't a bad game (somehow it was fun despite me disliking most of it on principle, and often in practice).

It's just.... the storyline kept jumping everywhere, it didn't feel continuous, it threw curveballs, which while I'm a fan of surprises and twists, just ended up being bizarre, the main character is the sort of guy who I'd like to kill in his sleep (and I'm a pacifist!), and many other characters are just plain irritating.

The junction system, were it less abusable and done with a few changes would have been great.

As it was done? Horrid. Abusable beyond all belief and irritating to deal with (although I can certainly see why people would like it).

If Laguna, Kiros and Ward had been main characters, I would have loved it. Main reason I kept playing was Laguna. A much better protagonist than Squall.

                                Phew.

If you liked the game, I could definately see why, so please don't take this to mean your tastes are illegitimate.
The Knight of Faith resigns the dream, only to believe it.
