    Re: Your dream home?

Being somewhat hampered by walkers and wheelchairs we had to build ower house with rather larg rooms and wide doors like the ones you see at hospitals. It was cheaper then trying to remodel an already built house.

Probably, and yeah, 300sq is more than I was thinking of, and definitly not for that price.

Although it is interesting to note that after around 1500-1800 sqft, your price per sqft actually RISES, because even though you aren't using as many materials, you still have things like

also found some more examples I like. http://www.tinyhomes.com/THouse-examples.html Although I don't like the log cabin design of the actual site's houses, I like the way some of the ones on this page look.

Given the fact that i'm planning on adding a basement, it will probably have more sqft than i'm thinking of though. I'm thinking of making it as sort of a Reverse Loft. Below the house (reverse) a safe place to be (tornados and such), a little get away from the house (loft), but still not too big.

That makes sense. Most newer construction already has those kind of things already in place (wider hallways, stairwell, and doors), but older construction (I'm talking early 90's and further back) tend to be a bit narrower.

edit: That was in response to Kadenmire. I'm a bad quoter.

Also, 300sq feet isn't very much space, like, at all. I'd go crazy. But I guess if it were really functional I'd manage.

Location is important. I live in a pretty sub urban, sub rural area where you see a lot of neighborhoods grouped with a small plot of country or forestation between them. They've urbanized a lot since our house was built, but I guess that was inevitable because of our location right next to the 'Information Corridor'. There's a really nice plot of land called Dayspring nearby that would be heavenly to live on. It's relatively small, but is edged by a wooded area and features two lakes.

The house itself would have to be fairly large, but only two floors. The bottom floor would have wooden floors, while the top would be carpeted. I've have a spacious den on the top floor lined by bookshelves. Relatively sound proof bathrooms would be a plus, I have always felt that having to listen to somebody else go to the bathroom is rude of them.

the room i'm in now is probably 80sqft (rough estimate), and personally it's too big for my needs. I have my futon, my computer, then like 3 feet of dead space to the wall. There's at least 9 square feet with NO use whatsoever before you get to my closet, which is another waste of space. It's a small walk in, about the size of a half-bath, 95% of the storage is done in a two foot unit shoved up against the backwall.

I just hate having more room than I need, which also ties into laziness, since less room is less cleaning, and less pointless stuff to walk through.

              Double Post Edited:
I live in a suburban area, and i'm comfortable with that. Though this neighborhood is a bit too preppy for my tastes, it's just a city outside a city outside a real city (KCKS)

It's nice though, because it's between two major shopping centers, and only 20-40 minutes from downtown.

I solve that by having a cleaning service. Yes, I'm that resistant to housework.

I am not a fan of the suburbs, like, at all. If I can't walk there or get a quick train, I'm not sure that it's worth the visit. Except of course for the fact that there actually are a lot of things worth visiting, which means that I have to go there anyway, which means a grumpy me.

much as I hate cleaning, having other people come into my house and move things around would be even more uncomfortable for me.

My wife drives a GEO. Its so small that I can't get in or out of it without a lot of help but on the bright side it gets twice the gas milage of my Jeep.

I drive an enormous gas-guzzling pickup. And as much as it costs me a fortune to fill it up, I wouldn't want to drive anything else.

My cleaning person cleans for a few of my friends, so I know she can be trusted. I can totally empathise with being uncomfortable with a stranger rummaging through your things though.

I've driven a pickup before, don't like 'em, and I don't really need much space in a vehicle.

If I need to haul stuff around, i'll rent something.

I don't own a car. I can drive, and I really enjoy it, but I don't actually need a car. If I did get one, it wouldn't be terribly large. I mean, it'd have to be of moderate size, because I'm 6'1, but it wouldn't have to be huge. I'm lanky.

                                Oh my goodness yes.

Anyone goes in my room to look for anything, no matter who they are and I get all squirmy.
