  • those danged FFXI prepay cards

    Sorry to bring a numb-nut question like this back from the grave. I have recruited a friend and my cousin to FFXI and they are setting up to play. My damn cousin is only 16 and doesn't have any credit cards, and his parents give him so much crap about anything they deem "diffucult" about letting him play. He was asking me about a FFXI prepay/Visa card that I saw on the ol' web and where it was. I have seen the site and the card before, but for the life of me, I can't remember where it was.

    Can anybody point me in the right direction? I've done searches for it, and I end up sifting through posts like this from other sites, instead of getting a link to the actual page where the card is offered. In the immortal words of the Fly, "Help me!"

    Ka-clickity. I think that's the one you're talking about. You could always try a "generic" prepaid card, like from Western Union or something.

    There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

      Is that not just basically like any other visa card cept its got FFXI on it? You might as well just get a visa card instead. You can enter bank details for a direct debit I think which wouldnt require a card either.

        Ahhh, you're the best. Thanks. Oddly, as I was looking around at random posts, I somehow felt in my bones that Elipsis would be the one to come through. ESP? Yes. And before you ask....Yes, again.

        Double Post Edited:
        Yeah, I'm not sure how different this card is from any other, but that's what his Ma & Pa wanted to see. I got credit cards out the wazoo, so I haven't really researched it all for him.

            Re: those danged FFXI prepay cards

            if ur cousin lives in US, there r many other alternatives.

            1. prepaid visa/mastercard, such as;

            Simon Malls' VISA gifcard - available at all the Simon-operated malls throughout US.
            Western Union prepaid Mastercard - must enroll online first, and then visit one of the local western union agents to activate and load funds to the card after it arrives.

            also, some local banks offer prepaid visa/mastercards, such as Key Bank up in Maine.

            2. open a checking acct and use the visa/mastercard debit card that comes w/ it. many banks require the minimum opening deposit, ranging from $25-$500, or otherwise specified, but it's not required to maintain the acct, so he can just borrow that deposit from parents and return it as soon as the acct is opend. although in many cases he has to pay monthly fees, some banks offer totally free checking accts, so inquire w/ his local banks. and though he's still 16, as long as he can get his parents to sign the application, visa/mastercard debit card will also be issued, subject to the bank's rule.

            if he doesn't live in US but his parents agree to use the one Ellipses has posted a link to, that's great.

              Wow, thanks for all those options. He is in the US in good old Tejas. I think he's not old enough to have a credit card of his own and his folks really don't want him be able to spend that money on anything but the game. Any of those should work, so I'll pass on the info to him and his parents. Thanks again.
