This is from a PM I got. I decided to put this here instead of the Main Discussion because it isn't just related to FFXI, but more, not being a moron.

(Also: nobody on this site, and it didn't happen on this site.)

You can sit on your thumb and spin around on it, Mr. 58 MNK. I know its a game, moron... thats the point of the post.

I left off most of the sig and whatnot, just enough to give a feel for the guy.

I would like to say a few things:

1) Levels mean little about experience.
2) Levels mean nothing if you're a moron.
3) Check member join dates. If yours is two years past someone else, think before you call their "immaturity" into play.
4) Don't be an idiot.
5) If someone has a valid point, there is no logically valid way to refute it. This includes demeaning them or looking down on them.

That being said, you never know how much someone has read or done outside of playing the job that is in their Sig. You don't know if they've read every post on Monk or had the game for longer than you.

They may have more experience at life, at work, or just general knowledge. All you get to see is words on a screen, so, be careful next time one of you decides to call someone out on somthing "moronic".

In forums people love to play the "You don't know what you're talking about so I'm automatically right" game. It sucks, but it's just a fact of life. Shame some folks take it so far as to harass you via PM. Thankfully I manage to avoid most drama like that.

Erm... well.. I'm still looking with bemusement at a few certain high level players who think they are "teh bombga!" when really... they are just needing to be bombed. It's cute though, but strange... thumb, sit, spin? Quite random - and how you'd plan to acheive that is well.. beyond me - I'm flexible and not even I can do that. ><

75 Thf do tend to have a highly strung factor though... it's the whole - "Hey Dude! TH Whore for us now!! Yes you.. the one with the T-R-E-A-S-U-R-E H-U-N-T-E-R!" - ... - "What do you mean you're farming? Come farm for us! Now! We need drops! And no.. we aren't going to take you exp'ing with us." - in fact.. most Thieves have this potential to be highly strung (I know I sure do). It depends on if we've had a party invite in the past week that wasn't solely to benefit someone else with our leet TH skills.

Actually - I don't think join dates mean a toss. On SWG I was an EU Vet, from a week after the game started. Didn't join for about 9 months afterwards on the forums. Had that flung in my face a lot, even though I'd been playing since the start. Same with FFXI, day of EU release - I'd got it on my PC... only registered here though last month.

Your other stuff makes sense though.

Very random PM though... I think I'd get a chuckle if I had one of those.

The same thing happens in game. People see a low rank, or a low level (even though OMG, people can change jobs all the time, or even nationality), and they immediately slap the "noob" label on them. It's pretty frustrating.

I started over a couple of months ago, and I swear to god, there are days when I just can't stand everyone talking down to me. Even LS members who know that I've been playing since late 2003, and who know how far I made it on my last characters still tell me things about really common events (rank 3 dragon, job flag quests, how to get around fricking Qufim for crying out loud), like I'm wet behind the ears or something.

Them: "Man, wait until you have to do G1. You're going to hate that."
Me: Well, since you know that I reached 65 three times (screenshots and all at our LS site), wouldn't that lead you to believe that I not only did G1, but all but the last Genkei twice? (I had two previous characters)

Drives me batty.

I was having a discussion about WAR subs the other day, and one of my LS members right in the middle of it was like "Ok, you're wrong. You haven't been playing long enough to understand." And I was like "Only since 2003!" and he was like "oh".

Ehh, a responce like that on other Forums is kind of expected. They are allowed to run wild and wild they are, flame like that start here and one of the Mods will likely be there to put an end to it quickly.

I know a level 70 that asked me to outpost warp the other day. I didn't even remember how to answer that. (lol)

Anyway, you're right about join dates... but they're just another factor to take into consideration. Your levels, join dates, and all that put together (user ID) may make you want to take a step back and look again. Just think before you say somthing.

And for those of you wondering what I said... it was somthing like "I don't appreciate you telling me how to play the game, and how I should enjoy it. I pay my fee every month just like everyone else. It is just a game after all."

I'm not even sure how levels come into that.

hey i get it all the time as i have only just got my broadband (NTL take ages to hook you up lol) and i've been wanting to play this game since it came out so i had to 1 buy pc and 2 get broadband and when i do get onto the game one week ago i have had trouble coz no one would help me learn how to play the game properly and when i joined a party they just threw me back out coz i didn't know how to party the right way for WAR but by sheer luck i had someone who let me join LS and has helped out quite a bit but finding it hard as we are on different time scale

Was actually thinking it's not my place to wonder.

Now - if you were trying to write a definitive guide for newbies on how to not be n00bs - and told them to beg, lie, cheat, and basically be numpties... I'd probably napalm the bejesus out of my monitor. But - most times... no.

Things I look at: What people have posted before. I look at their opinions and what they write. Take mental note. If I know of them in game or know their actions personally in game - that also goes into consideration. Then what they've posted then. Then who's posting replies to them, see if the people posting replies fill previous boots. Then finally - if people are really numpties, I'll usually toast them subtley - with minor minor one liners that only they and those who know them will ever get - if they read carefully.

Unless of course it's Jinghles. He has like a kiddie in a sweet shop effect, except with Napalm. ><

70+ are usually stupider than 50-65...on my server anyway...



I've had so many 70+ players ask me [BLM60] what to do it's not funny. While most of them aren't stupid, and just know it's easiest to ask me if you need to know something, you'd be suprised.
