This is exactly how I got it. I havn't used my eBay account in months, nor has anybody else. As I read through it I was wondering why it was filled with many gramatical errors, and then I hit the bottom and saw "The eBat Team". The link lead here:

Which I havn't clicked, but I wouldn't advise others to either unless you have a nice virus scan and pop up blocker.

URLs unlinked. Just in case someone isn't careful. —Taskmage

    Re: Fake ebay email

Not only is there a risk of viruses, but there could be some strong spyware there waiting to steal your ebay login info as soon as you enter it.

I hate these email phishing scams. They could be trying to steal your credit card or bank information stored in your account as well.

Key lesson. Don't open links given to you in e-mail. If anything, they should tell you how you can reach them, not give you a link.

I hate password spoofs with a passion. Almost fell for one a while back, as I posted here.

This one's pretty blatant, but thanks for the heads-up anyway.

I unlinked the links in the OP so there's no possibility of someone clicking by accident.

Yes, these type of emails are rampant. I can't tell you how many I get a day, its staggering. Ebay, amazon, citibank, etc. Some are so horribly done you can see right through them but some are very very professional and scary.

Rule of thumb, if your concerned about what the email says about your account, DO NOT use any links in the email. Go directly to the site and investigate. If they have Live Chat, use it. If not, find the customer service page and call or email them, preferably call.

It's funny because many of us can just sigh or laugh at these emails because we know better. But imagine people who are occasional internet users, maybe got a computer and the internet just for email to family and friends and to pay bills. They aren't aware that these emails are malicious and many of them get sucked into this. If you have anyone like that in your family or friends, educate them!! And even though you are savvy with the net doesn't mean your immune. I've been on it for 20 years and I've been a victim of identity theft twice. It's not pretty.
