  • Blizzard is starting their April Fools early?

    http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/burni...all/wisps.html

It looks like they put a lot of effort into it this time, which is trademark for Blizzard; more effort in to everything that doesn't have to do with the game itself. I only wonder if the background to their whisp character creation hints towards whatever it really is supposed to be.

    Racial Traits:
    • Detonate: Destroys the wisp, dispelling all magical buffs and draining 50 mana from each unit in an area around the wisp.
    • Gatherer: Skill to herbalism, mining, and skinning increased by 10.
    • Permanent Death
    • Treeform: Turns the wisp into a tree for 30 seconds. During this time, spirit is increased by 300. However, the wisp's chance to dodge or parry axes is reduced by 50%.
I'm so glad Square-Enix doesn't spend so much time doing retarded things like this. They also had another April Fools news post about World of Burgercraft, and then what seems like a legit post about new servers on new hardware, but it's all posted on the same day so who knows...

transform a yellow spot into the sun.

Oh, I'm sure it is, just seems odd to put in the part about evasion and only make it a 50% reduction.

Meh, so long as the fans enjoy it, I consider it time well spent. I always get a kick out of their april fool's stuff. Who's to say you can't have any fun on the job, after all?

                  It's a problem with priorities.

Their forums are filled with complaints. The game itself is full of complaints. These complaints are about bugs and flaws that have existed since beta. When you wonder why they havn't been fixed yet, you can look at stuff like this and suddenly know why.

Besides, Wisps are already dead. Night Elves become a wisp when they die, so permadeath is both redudant and a flaw of logic. That's something you can expect to see a lot playing World of Warcraft.

What race is on the Horde side, at the very bottom? It looks like regular elves, but I thought elves were both unplayable and part of the alliance.

They were in the expansion to Warcraft 3.

                            >< Work internet won't allow WoW pages. I guess its smarter than I thought.
I'll look at it when I get home.
I think its fine to have fun at your job. Lord knows I try on a daily basis, otherwise I'd have committed suicide long ago. But Impaction is quite right about it too. If I had legitimate work to be doing and was dicking around all day, I'd sure as hell get in trouble. Somehow in certain jobs it just seems to be overlooked.

Well things are different from studio to studio (I've heard of some developers that run practically like sweat shops) but the video game industry creates fun. If you're not having fun at work, odds are you aren't doing it right. At the company I was last working at, during slower development periods there was an hour set aside before whistle time to just play games. It made sure we stayed aware of new things, gave us a chance to decompress and bond with/frag the hell out of our coworkers, and probably increased our general productivity by keeping us from burning out. On the other hand, when things got down to the wire, we started making three 12 hour rotating shifts to make sure someone was always there to handle problems, etc. There were weeks near the end of the project where I would only get to see my kids a few hours on Sundays. My wife and I spent Valentines in the office together. >,< So it's give and take. Work hard, play hard.
