Caspian you didn't like the first person shooter mode in doom? i would have to say that was pretty much the other good part in the movie besides the fight scene with the rock. which 10 years from now will look like a big pile of horse sh?t!

Here is a link to the trailer. Ok, so watched the trailer. For the first 1/2 of it, I was intrigued. It looked like it could actually be a good movie but the 2nd half kind of dampened my spirits. I guess its hard for me to make a decision on this because I'm one more for a movie that scares you without a lot of gore and effects. The 2nd half of the trailer seemed to have lots of gore and effects. So I'm going to be 50/50 on this but at least it doesn't make you go "someone poke my eyes out PLEASE" from the start like some of the other gaming movies. LOL

Silent Hill game series scared the POO out of me! Honestly, I would have to put down the game and do something else sometimes because my heart would be racing. LOL Resident Evil (the very first one) did that to me too. I have this thing about vampires and biting necks and when someone would get chomped on by a zombie I would scream. Needless to say my husband was less than thrilled with that game. LOL (I read Stephen King's Salem's Lot late at night in bed when I was a teen. I started sleeping with garlic next to my bed, a crucifix, and my neck wrapped in a scarf. That book scared me BIG time!)

I played the first Resident Evil and Silent Hill 2. Different kind of horror really. I can't get the trailer to play but I'm interested. (What the hell is a "bad movie atom"?)

I hear Siren is getting made into a movie, too. Anybody play that one? I didn't really get far in it ... I could only stand to hear the groanings and insane mumblings of the damned coming from my own head for so long ...

I guess its hard for me to make a decision on this because I'm one more for a movie that scares you without a lot of gore and effects. The 2nd half of the trailer seemed to have lots of gore and effects.

Have you seen Wait Until Dark?
One of the greatest scary/suspense movies ever.

I hope its good. I've been wanting a good scary movie lately that is based off atmosphere more so than flashing and image, or projecting profuse gore.

I've been rabid for Silent Hill since the first one. I appreciate the storytelling and enjoy the atmosphere and creature effects. I'd go as far as saying I'm a SH nerd with reading forums and getting into fan art.

So I hear about a SH movie and I cringe. Then I see a trailer and have hope. But then I see the movie. If you are afraid of even the slightest spoilage (no plot points or anything, but I'm a freak about even hinting), don't read the rest.

Visuals and Atmosphere: A+
The director did a fantastic job. It was creepy as hell and, imo, captured the feel of the game very well (or as well as you can in two hours). There was a little too much gore, imo, but it was good nonetheless.

Story: F-
Way to totally botch. The screenwriter has never played the games. That or decided "Hey, I'll just write something that has nothing to do with the SH continuum/pantheon." Dare I say, WTF?

I'll put it up there with Crow2. It's a great movie, just as long as you turn off the sound first. If you have any love for the SH story, put it aside before you enter the theater. This is just a SH-esque knockoff.

Am I the only one who's actually seen it?

If you haven't yet, you won't be disappointed. There isn't an insane amount of talking so too much dialogue doesn't affect the feeling of the movie. It IS scary in some parts, as I've seen several people, including my gf and younger bro (who happens to love scary movies) hiding their faces. Even the dude in front of me.
You'll also recognize several sound effects from the game itself. The acting itself wasn't that bad from the cast, though everytime I saw Sean Bean, I kept thinking of his Boromir part in Lord/Rings... heh...

But anyway... go see it! You'll like it!

I didnt play the game, saw it once, but never played so i have a slightly different perspective. I think the story was entertaining, a little slow at times, but entertaining. Visually was just awesome, the special effects were well done the lighting was spectacular. My one and only complaint is the ending, I wont say what the ending is for those that havent seen it, but that was the only drawback to the whole movie to me. Again I have never played the game so i dont know the story of the game or how it relates to the movie, but i found the movie to be entertaining, and pretty pleased that i saw it in the theater.

I liked it.
It would have been too hard to pack the game's story into two hours, so I can see why a new story had to be written. And the new story wasn't that bad, either.
It was very creepy, particularly...
