whats are your takes on the movie silent hill?

Haven't seen the trailer that I can remember. But my general rule is that movies based on video games are sucky until proven innocent. Except for Mario Bros. that movie just ruled. I still can't believe they actually intended on a sequel.

mario bros was impressive, but street fighter by far the best video game movie ever. speicaly after jcvd jumped 50ft in the air while coming out blankas pod to kick bison. lol check out trailer. www.welcometosilenthill.com

I hear it actually has a decent director unlike most of the other game movies made recently, but I don't really pay attention to those things. If I go to see a game movie I expect to see something loosely related to the title with a modicum of fanservice. Resident Evil got the nod because Milla Jovovich was in it, which meant there would be a naked girl in it somewhere. Didn't really expect it to be any good otherwise. I got just what I expected.

yes it was sarcasm, but it was hella funny when he came out the pod. re was horrible. but to be honest i believe silent hill will be some what decent and will relate to the games. but i could be mistaken, it is a game made into a movie. and usualy the blow ><

'k I just had to check, since I had a friend that actually liked Street Fighter: The Movie. It makes him a good reference for when a movie is really bad.

I've never played the games, but they are somewhat like the Resident Evil's correct? Horror/thriller? Putting the whole video game history to the side, I usually hate "scary" movies. Especially newer scary movies. "Well, we can't scare you with the plot, so lets try and gross you out with an unreal amount of gore." That and there are so many scary movies that are really good for the first hour or so, then they try to think of a way to end it and it just ends up becoming complete crap.
Lets take Clive Barker's In the Mouth of Madness for example. First half was really good. "Whats going on? Is it in his head or is it real? Whats haunting the town? I don't know?" Pan to walls dripping blood and every other scary movie cliche in the book and you end up with a festering pile of crap.
Sorry /endrant. Thats always been a pet peeve of mine with scary movies.

Lol Taskmage, I have a friend like that. "So he thought XXX sucked, and he thinks every other movie he's ever seen is great....hmmm, it must be REALLY bad." Ofcourse he also thought Braveheart was "slow in parts", so most of his movie critiques are to be taken with a grain of salt.

Err ... *cough* I had no idea, I swear.

Looking at this promo site, it seems like the movie has a lot of potential. The creators seem to have an appreciation for atmosphere, as opposed to zomg scary thing jumping out of shadow movies like Alone in the Dark. Guess I might check it out.

I've never really been one for survival-horror games, so I never played Silent Hill and can't be disappointed if the movie doesn't conform to canon or whatever. I guess that's a plus.

Silent Hill is a fantastic game. We should pray (or it's prey, i never remember) that the "movie-maker" will be a cool guy, or he will destroy a myth.

Sufice to say it is supposed to be a pretty good film. It has a great director, Christophe Gans and is meant to be a really good suspense / horror. It has an international production team with the most contribution from Japan, USA & France. Ironically about half of the members in this forum wont be able to watch it legally lol

If anyone has played the game they know how spine chilling it can be. My mate and I played it at 1am on his xbox with 5.1 souround sound in the pitch dark. A door closes in the game behind us, we looked around sharply at the living room door behind us LOL!!! The music is very atmospheric and apparently this is mirrored in the film. it has been documented that it din't have any male leads originally but was sent back for a re-write to include one which British actor Sean bean has tken on the role. If you have played teh original game, the storyline, follows this in places. if you have played the game and know the suspense, you wont be disapointed with the same from the film.

Another film I'm looking forward to is Scary movie 4!! check out the trailers on IMDB.com takes the p yet again of the many blockbusters this last year, including war of the worlds (watch the trailer and you'll see )
