Re: I declare jihad on FFXI

Shouting anything remotely objectionable is just plain idiotic. My LS has a strict "no /say, no /shout, no /emote" policy during LS events that are in a public venue such as camping a king. This works well not only to keep members out of trouble but also to keep other compeating LSs from getting any way of lessening competition by reporting someone for something assinine.

Re: I declare jihad on FFXI

In terms of harrasment you have to be careful. This applies to Real Life as well.

Say you say "Fuck" and you are with a group of friends you know and only they hear it. Friends know you and probably expect that word to come out from you at one point or another. So none of them would consider the act harrasment.

Now say the same situation occures but a 3rd party hears it. That 3rd party doesn't like the word and feels it to be degrading. The 3rd party has legal right to sue you for harrasment. Even though you said the word to one of your own friends not even directed to that 3rd party they can still sue.

The reasoning of this goes back to figuring out where one person's rights end and another person's begin. Doesn't matter were you are, if you swear, speak ill of, insult, or anything you are willingly chancing a recourse to that action even if it seemed harmless to you. If it has a chance of being insulting to someone you run the risk of a recourse to it.

The fact that the GM only flagged a warning to you for it is showing a good recourse of action, if he banned you for something like that it would be a different story.

I will find out who you are. then I'll really give you a reason to call a GM.

Anyway, I actually encountered the GM "Patchoulie" a few times. In GM /tell's I mean, not "in person." . Just something I noticed.

Besides, don't get annoyed of people replying good or bad anyway, online sociality sucks, except for the informative side.

I think that rule is mostly used to keep things clear. Certain people have to, or just like to act fast when needed, and get really annoyed when some weird /emote or things in /say come by.. Some people take FFXI too serious anyway.

Re: I declare jihad on FFXI

My LS has a 'no excessive swearing' policy where we'll allow a cuss here and there just as long as it's not too disruptive. If you go dropping f-bombs every other sentance that's a problem, but if SL decides to chomp on your spine for lunch or a damn scorp decides to be stingy and not drop his axe after dozen or more kills, then it's ok to vent a bit. Personally though, I don't use anything worse the damn, hell, crap ect, the small ones IMO. Basically if it's said on South Park (excluding the movie and that one ep where they used the s word 200+ times) then it's ok by me

Pardon me for pointing this out, but what exactly was said? And don't tell me just "the f-bomb". We have your side of the story, but what is the context? Did the rap including a phrase like, "Fucking awesome" or was it a phrase like "I hate fucking n-bomb"

Sorry, but you complain and whatnot, but you don't even say what -exactly- was said. For all we know the GMs DID look at context, and decided that you crossed the line where other people did at that time did not.

Smoke crak? Bah. We all know that some GMs are lenient on one thing while others are virtually natzi about it. Certainly a lot people differentiate between swearing and swearing at someone, and there's a fair chance that GMs are as equally devided on it as they are say, windower use.

Either way, I think its a fair question to put it into context.

Re: I declare jihad on FFXI

My issue isn't with the GM, someone called him and from that point on he was required to do something. (I don't see why he couldn't have just sent a /tell, but whatever.)

My problem is with the loser that actually called the GM. You don't like using the filter? What did you expect to see, a bunch of people using ?'s in place of curse words? Regardless of whether or not you're offended by it (if you are offended then I don't see why you just wouldn't keep the filter on), calling a GM for something like this is just chickenshit. No other word for it. You're mature enough to be offended by bad language, but not offended to politely send that person a /tell and ask them stop? Maybe if they then told you to f*** off and leave them alone, I could possibly see why you might call a GM (though just using /blist would be easier). Its just interesting that many people are "too mature to hear it", but when it comes time to sack up and do something about it, they choose to act like first graders and go tattle to teacher. Seriously, I think the GM's have enough to do with MPK attempts etc. Do they really need to be spending time answering calls b/c someone is using "naughty" words?

Oh, and about the analogy to speeding and gettng a ticket whatever...are you the kind of person that calls 911 b/c someone on the same road as you is speeding?

Re: I declare jihad on FFXI

I think it was just an issue of somebody wanting to remove somebody trying to claim the NM. Somebody calls you a bad name, GMs tell you to black list them. Somebody slanders you in /say or /shout, they might get a slap on the hand, otherwise... "black list them". Somebody emotes urinating on your head, in cruder words (involving swears also)? (I've had this happen to me...) GM: "Blacklist!"

I haven't even seen people get in trouble due to swears before today. I'm another one of those people that just find it silly. You don't want to turn shout filters off? Okay...that's your choice. You don't want to see swear words from random people, but at the same time don't want to turn the language filter on? I'm sorry, but you're a dumbass. :D

That's like not wanting to see gay porn, then doing a google image search of gay porn with image filters off, then getting pissed off at google.

It sucks that you got GMed for language. Still, it's something we all should keep in mind so we don't get GMed over something silly like that.

your not getting it, its fine to see casual cussing, thats normal and excepted most of the time by everyone, but there is not reason at all to over use cuss words, other than to be anoying, and then you deserve to get reported

Where in the topic did you see where it said how many times she sweared in her shout? I didn't see any pictures, or any quotes on what she said that got her GMed. So, how are you determining that she "over-used" swear words?

I stick by what I said. If you don't want to see swear words on FFXI, filter them.
