Wow, talk about passive-aggressiveness.

Freedom of speech issues aside, the TOS does prohibit profanity, and the GM's aren't particularly well-known for having a sense of contextual awareness. I will back up what Aeni said a few posts back. Enemies are made often without realizing it, and it only takes a small bit of carelessness to expose yourself to a lot of damage. Selective enforcement of the rules is a horrible problem, and few will dispute that, but it only takes one bullet in the chamber to do ya in.

Now while I can understand just having a bit of fun with people in /sh, I can also understand being offended by what someone shouts. There are quite a few rap songs that offend me with their content and I'm not a big fan of public profanity in the first place. But on the other hand, there is a filter for swearing and if they tell us to just /blist people who send us nasty tells, that usually contain profanity, then why the big smack for this? The OP claims to have a clean record so why flag his account? Some people get warnings and some don't (talking about people with no previous behavior issues).....why? GM PMS?

Yes there are 2 sides to every story and we are only hearing one, but it is good to try and see things from both sides. I really don't think its something to get so upset about that you start a thread on the forums and go on a rant but yes it is annoying. I think if it were me I would be 50% upset at SE for their lack of continuity with the rules and 50% upset with myself over pulling such a bonehead manuver. Live and learn.

oh and I do see it from your side, all you did was sing a rap song in shout chat, but that rap song had a good amount of cuss words in it, and that is where you made your mistake. Like some others have said, live and learn from your mistake, and dont do it again -.-

Step one: Ignore
Step two: if harassment continues, call a GM
Step three: enjoy

To call a GM is to just start drama, no other reason. I think you were done wrong because of it. There is an ignore feature just like we have injunctions IRL. It's a failsafe for us as humans to maintain our happiness when it's challenged.

Kerrigan, I am sorry you got jailed, but you did break the ToS. Doesn't matter if others were doing the same before/after/etc. you got caught. It's like running a red light, sure you have lots of people doing it, but sucks to be you (or me in this particular example) if you have an unmarked cop car behind you when you do it.

I'm sure many of us have been pulled over by a cop for speeding, Sometimes you get a warning, sometimes you get a ticket, and sometimes you speed right past a cop ad they don't even look twice. Sometimes everone else around you is speading and youre the one that gets picked out. Regardless you admit you did some thing wrong, and you got nailed for it. I agree it was reaaly minor. I agree that it sucks that it happened, I think the same when I get pulled over for going 5 miles over the speed limit while i get passed by other people doing 20 over. But it was againstthe rules you knew it was against the rules, you did it anywayys, and you got caught. Yeah it sucks, but you were in the wrong in this case. Some one was offened by your choice of lyrics, and they happened to get a GM that was offended as well, they got lucky and you didn't.

As forthechat filters. Chat filters suck. Period. They tend to block more normal words than the offensive words they are meant to block. So they may have turned them off so they could have rugular conversations with out ??????? popping up. Or maybe they share an account with someone else that doesn't care about offensive language, so they turned off the filter while they were playing. Maybe they aren't offended nessacarily by the words but the context that they are used in. There are plenty of reasons why someone would have the chat filters turned off so its not a valid excuse either.

If you /sh swear words, you're likely to get jailed. Only time you won't get reprimanded for swearing is if it's in anything but /say or /shout. That's when the GM's will tell the people reporting you just to /blacklist you.

On a side note. If I'm not Muslim, can I still declare Jihad on all the people that won't STFU in Jeuno?

Cussing gets you sent to jail. A lot of people don't like rap, specially people who play FFXI(save the gil buyer crowd and zerg LSes). What did you expect?

Being sent to jail isn't a big deal, but I think I do get banned if I get sent back one more time.

Look JadeNightshade, it is not fair to force others to listen to whatever garbage is in ur mind. Like being rude or swearing in ur case. So when u want to swear keep it to ur self none is interested to know what type of music u like, or u think u will sound/look cool by swearing.

Well done for the person who told a GM about u, I’m very new in this game and if I see anyone swearing I will tell a GM.

Final fantasy is about adventure and quests making friend and enjoy the beautiful graphic of sceneries, if u or others are going to start swearing then it won’t a final fantasy game it will become dump for mindless people.

Most important swearing can really ruin the mood of the payer in the game…if some player is playing and enjoying the story and graphics and then someone like u comes along swearing and singing. It would really put the game out of its phase.

The only thing that is not fair in ur case is that u got sent to jail and others who did something similar to what u did didn't get sent to jail.


Also I understand that muslims are not suppose to swear or even sing a rap song.
