If you want a gf or something then just put in some effort, I think its safe to say you'll prolly have to cut back some on FFXI time, unless you only want her for a week or so. Honestly, putting in the initial effort can be the hardest part (especially when you apathetic and lazy like myself).
Though, this might be a question better posed to your RL friends rather than on a FFXI forum, its kinda like going to a bar and asking the patrons there how to stop drinking so much.

I've got photo's of 3 best friends I dated before at the same time. They didn't care either o.O I should dig up that old case stored will all those photos and letters and have fun traveling through memory lane again.

Anyway like TheGrandMom and a few other already said, it all depends on time management. You'll likely be playing FFXI less but more concentrated in your goals to achieve on it.

Tough Choice

Well, for anyone just joining us, the current options are:
1) Drop FFXI and get a girlfriend.
2) Forget a girlfriend and level.
3) Experiment with hentai.
4) Try to balance both FFXI and a girlfriend.

Ok, so maybe that last one sounds like the plot for a sitcom episode. You know, the one where the kids wreck the car and just have to keep the parents from finding out for a couple hours while it gets fixed. The moral of the story is that it never works for more than 30 minutes.

Let me impart a bit of my wisdom to you. Girlfriends are like equipment. (Yes, yes, I know I'll get flamed for this. It'll get funny here in a bit. . . I hope.) If you are casual about it, you can have a little bit of fun with minimal investment. But you will only be performing to a margin of your ability. To be truly successful at what you do, you really need to invest time, effort, and money. The question is, do you have the gil, errr, money to afford a girlfriend +1? Remember, with cheap girlfriends, parties won't touch you with a ten foot pole.

Once when I worked for DirecTV, a few colleagues said the company should start airing a HD Spice channel. For anyone that hasn't thought through that statement yet, it's a contradiction in intent. The purpose of HD, in case you aren't aware, is to make TV more lifelike--make you feel like you're a part of the event. These poor gentlemen (if connoisseurs of porn are indeed gentlemen) wanted to see naked women in a more lifelike way than they currently did. Now, perhaps I'm not quite the wisest person in the world, but I would think that the most lifelike way to see a naked woman would be in real life. I could go on longer, but the basic moral of the story is that there's a reason games are called virtual reality, it's just an imitation of a real life, real friends, real accomplishments. . . real girls.

Sorry, no cat girls. Consult your nearest scientist on that one.

But if you only need to do like one quest or missions and just need to "get it out of you system" then even the cheapest of "equipment" will suffice.

Um. . .hmmm -.- Well, I wont state any universal truths, but I have realized that since losing FFXI for 3 months, I was forced to socialize. Furthermore, In that time span, I was actually able to keep up with movies, reassociated myself with the wonders of having a soft/warm female to sleep with and actually developed muscle mass.

Not saying that FFXI negated those things. Its just that until I was enlightened to the types of productivity I can do with my time outside of playing in Vana'diel, I pretty much only. . . um, played in Vana'diel.

Now Instead of surfing the internet, my girlfriend and I prefer to surf the crimson folds and I have been keeping in shape just to keep up with her. Try NOT playing FFXI for a period of time, then go back to it.

I'm done fitting my schedule around FFXI. I'm taking my life back! ><
