the cheaper ps3 not only has a smaller hard drive but also has no HDTV out or memory card support >.>

the ps3 controller has been redesigned and now looks exactly like the ps2 controler with a motion sensor in it and no rumble capability.

I'm hoping they announce FFXI for the PS3. I think it would be a mistake for Square Enix to adandon all of their loyal PS2 players by completely switching to the X360. Besides, FFXIII was announced for the PS3 yesterday.

It's about $500 for the gimp version...
Which has a smaller HD, but comes with no USB...

The $600 system has a larger HD...I think 30 gigs...
And USB...some more stuff, too...

So they announced it would have a $600 price tag? Damn, that's expensive.

There is also a $499 edition of the PS3 with less stuff and a smaller hard drive. Still a good chunk of change but a slightly better price for less hardcore users.

The $599 unit has a 60 gb hd and the $499 unit has a 20gb hd.

The point is, little kids won't be buying it. Now that I am a young man with my own source of income (and thanks to college, no immediate bills) 600 dollars does not seem to be that expensive.

And since I hate going out, when ppl ask me why I'm not going out on the weekend, I can say "Saving up for PS3."

And we already had an active post going, so can one of the mod's merge them, please?

I hope you're referring to your personal preference of games, and not on system performance.. but if you were referring to the performance of the systems, I can see why you refer to yourself as the Wishmaster..

I have a 360 and I'm loving it, and I'm certainly not happy that the PS3 will cost so much, but there's no doubt that I'll be buying one because there are going to be exclusives I just can't pass up; FF13 alone sells the system to me. >.<

I cant see the new ps3 controller. I cant wait to get home. Still 600 dollars for a gaming system. ouch, i am a little errie about it, the purpose of this is to get as much audience as possible. IIRC, all my gaming life, MOST consoles have been around 150 - 250 UDS. This recent generation is breaking that limit by far, and it will margin alot of people. I seriously think this is something to consider. Now some of us have jobs and can manage to get one, but I am sure some parents will think twice before buying a system that expensive.

What about multi console people? In the past, with that money you could at least afford 2 consoles, and well have access to more games, seems that wont be happening for everyone here.

To be honest, I really HATED the new ps3 controller desing. The dualshock seems perfect and people are very used to it... why change a good thing? I am glad Sony fixed that up!

The controller has been the same for ps and ps2, so I guess sony just thought people would prefer a change. Guess not o_o.

The reason the ps3 is so expensive is probably because of the drives and chips they're putting in it and the bluetooth. And geez, they're practically forcing people to buy the more expensive one if the cheaper one doesn't have usb ports. From what I've heard there are going to be a ton of online features and games, would be a bit hard to go online without a keyboard D=

The price for the PS3 isn't for everyone. Look at it like this. There are 28 paychecks till the PS3 is released. (This is based on the average person getting paid once a week on a Friday.) Now if you took $21.00 out each check till the PS3 comes out you will have $588.00 on Nov. 17th. Now if you want the cheaper one then its a smidge less a week. So if you think you can squirrel away $21.00 a week then you'll be able to get a PS3. Some people might have to make some sacrifices in order to save that much a week but it's only for 28 weeks and not forever!

The cheapest one only lacks HDMI and the multitude of Memory Ports.

It has USB ports, how else will you charge the controllers? And all the controllers, regardless of 500 or 600 system, are wireless.

And from a gaming perspective, I'll be frank and say that the 360 didn't impress me. For people to claim that games can't be made just for graphics and to support the 360 over the Wii and PS3 is contradictory. All 360 games seem to do is give you a better presentation and better interface than the previous generation. Just like the jump from SNES to n64 where everything was (Previous Game)64, XB360 games look to be upgraded additions to old franchises.

I'm glad Sony gave more maneuverability to gamers, and I'm tired of ppl calling it "copy-cat." Sony most likely saw Nintendo take a risk and decided to take one of their own. Microsoft, for 5 years now, has been so far inside the box it's frightening.

In addition to the controller, it functions so far at the other end of the spectrum from the WiiMote that for ppl bashing it without comparing the two is just methologic fanboyism.

Reading the comments on sites like Eurogamer and such show me that people will never grow up, and hopefully, those people won't be able to afford the PS3 at launch anyway.

When has anything technological been "innovative," if you want to think about it? Since when is Nintendo stealing technology that Windows users have been using since 1999 innovative? Since when is releasing the same franchises innovative? People are so far up Nintendo's asses that they'll give us Legend Of Zelda: Bathroom Adventures, and we'll talk about how revolutionary it is.

The same people that were on the Xbox Bandwagon only cause of the graphical prowess are acting like they care about gameplay now when the PS3 blatantly dwarfs the 360 in processing power and expandability.

The market reacts to things that powerhouses like Nintendo and Sony do. Ever since 16-bit era, it's been a 2 market system, and for Microsoft to run in and try to compete directly with Sony, who can sell units by releasing a box with the Sony logo on it, is foolish.

Look at Microsoft's battle plan- everything is a direct shot at Sony. Now, Sony has upped the game in every aspect above and beyond Microsoft, and people are complaining again.

You can never please fanboys, it seems. Microsoft's most innovative thing they've done was that interactivity between Vista, Phones and XB360 in terms of Live accounts. I won't explain it, look it up.

XB360 was only nice because it was for a console. Gamespy has been doing the same thing for PCs since like 98. Now Sony releases a unified online system, and they're "Stealing from Microsoft."

Keep in mind that when the PS2 released in 2001 it had a slot for the HDD AND the Network Adapter. Sony just had a case of wrong-place-wrong-time-wrong-price.

Now, people are going to be STEALING PS3s for 600 dollars and there is more complaining. That offsets the price of the current HD DVD players right there. For 600 dollars you're getting the next generation of Playstation, a BDRom player and a massively multemedia-game storage hub for the next 10 years. 600 dollars is a bargain.

But I suppose people are happy with their slightly upgraded Xbox's with HD output. Consumers amaze me to no end.

Heh. Yeah...
Save $21 dollars a week.
You still won't be able to get what's REALLY needed for NexGen gaming...
Which would be the $600 system...
With tax? Nearly $700...
With a bundle? Easily $800+...
Not to mention...if you get the $600 system...No games...No accessories...
Just a useless DVD player.

And. I'm assuming that anyone here who bashed on the 360 has never played one.
Sure...the specs might SEEM good for the PS3...But, you won't be able to determine which one is actually better until release...
