Are you telling me you guys didn't like "Minority Report", "Vanilla Sky", "Interview with the Vampire" or "A Few Good Men" ???????
C'mon, those are all great movies! Stop hating the guy just because you wish you could be him and get all the ladies he gets (lol, I'm not flaming... I wish I could be him too, heh heh)
Anyway, maybe you don't like him as a person, but seriously, he has been in several darn good movies so give this one a chance. I saw the trailer for it and it looks really good.
Oh and by the way, if you watch the trailer it's obviously about a "white man" who becomes a samurai... kind of like "Dances with Wolves" (a fantastic movie) where a "white man" becomes an American Indian (in spirit, obviously).
In other words, no, it's not like that stupid "kung fu" tv show where a white actor is pretending to be a chinese monk. Tom Cruise is not supposed to be Japanese in the movie LOL

Its not like i dont like tom, i think all the movies he played in were great. Its just i wish if they were going to make a movie about samurai's and that stuff i wish they would of had a japanese actor play the part.
But now i think about it i think it will be ok because i think it is about the americans attacking japan. and tom is on the american side.lol :spin: :spin:

I hate to flame but I will not let you get away with singing the praises of Vanilla Sky and Minority Report while talking crap about Kung Fu. Kung Fu was classic. Granted, Mister Cruise has been in some good movies, but he has ALSO BEEN IN SOME STINKERS. Oh sorry I had the caps lock on for a second there. Let's not forget about MI:2 shall we? Two words. CART WHEEL! Given Tom Cruise's track record in martial arts action movies, the outlook for the last samurai being a good movie is not... good.
Kinda off topic: Has anyone seen screenshots of Seven Samurai 20Xty6? ..Shudder.. Kurosawa must be doing A FREAKING CART WHEEL! in his grave.

I'm sorry if that is a complex statement for you but it seems to be really simple to me. So your words (that I quoted above) just make you sound ignorant. I should just tell you to go back and read my post again but you probably won't.
Therefore I repeat, THE MOVIE IS ABOUT A WHITE MAN WHO BECOMES A WHITE SAMURAI
(Oops, my caps and bold went on accidentally there too.)
Geez, do I need to make it any more clear for you??? With a plot like that, would it make sense to have a Japanese actor???
You probably think "Dances with Wolves" should have had a native american actor as the main character who is a deserter from the U.S. army.... clueless...
"Kung Fu" on the other hand was about a Chinese Monk played by a white actor! There's a world of difference! You can't comprehend that????
Well, I'm done, there's no point arguing with someone who can't understand the simplest of simple concepts.

I agree with you Kosh, but this whole deal is kinda why us american cartoonists don't go to Japan and try to become big in the anime industry.
I just don't think a white dude can "become" a samurai. you gotta have samurai mojo, just like i'd need some japanese animator mojo to become a japanese animator. I'll stick with the american animator mojo in my pants here.PSN ID - PaiPai Gamertag - PaiPaiMaster Steam ID: Pai Pai Master

LOL, actually I'm pretty sure I read something a while ago that there are Americans who go to Japan to make Anime. I believe in you Pai Pai, I think you could be a Japanese animator if you really put your heart into it.
I don't believe any race is just born with certain skills that others can't possess. That sounds like borderline racism to me. However, I do believe that in different cultures there are different skills that get more emphasis.
In other words, the reason there were so many Japanese Samurais is because that was part of the Japanese culture. If a Japanese kid was born in America, he would not automatically be a Samurai Master. And if a white baby was born in Japan and raised like a Samurai than he is just as capable of becoming a Samurai (skill wise of course- I doubt the gov would have allowed it officially).
However, in "The Last Samurai" it does not look like he was raised as a Samurai. So yeah it will be kind of fake if he is a master Samurai after 6 months of training. However, who knows how long his training will be in the movie. And if it is only six months, yeah that's kind of unrealistic, but you know what? That's why I go see movies, if I want real life, I'll look outside my window LOL :spin:
I just don't want "over the top" unrealism in certain types of movies. You know, like if Tom Cruise shot lasers from his eyes in this movie. Or a TV show about a chinese monk who is played by a white actor :p
Pai Pai, I hope you don't think this was a flame because it was not at all. I respect you

And I enjoyed the Kung Fu series, despite what people say about it.
Postscript: I'm not positive, but I don't think The Last Samurai is an action movie.
