Aeni, if you're a guy, you shouldn't think all women would have a problem with the LFL uniform. Obviously not all women think the same. If you're a woman, then religion/parents really screwed up your mind, because as a woman I support what LFL is doing for these women, that would not have gotten the chance to play football at this level, global exposure and popularity. Whether they wear what NFL wears or not, the LFL has to resort to this because it's really the men to blame for belittling women as a whole, which is why women's basketball, football, baseball, etc. don't receive as much attention alongside NHL, NBA, etc, even the professional leagues are equivalent to a circus only locals care about. The only exception is perhaps FIFA Women's soccer, but as for A.Football, there's no other women's football league as rapidly growing and successful like LFL. The LFL opened doors for women that would otherwise lived in obscurity. And Taskmage, what's "proper" is opinion based, not universal.

If you don't think it's proper for people taking full-body tackles to the chest to wear padding, then I don't think much of your "opinion," but I guess that much was already obvious.

I really appreciate what all nude cabarets do for college girls. They're basically feminist organizations if you think about it. /sarcasm

Honestly, I love strip clubs and if I gave a crap about football I'd probably like LFL too, but if you think they're somehow designed to empower women rather than simply exploit their bodies, you're deluding yourself. Whatever opportunities are afforded to these women are purely a side effect of men wanting to treat them like meat, and they're enabling that. If women athletes want more recognition and to be treated as equals, then they should form their own league that bills them as such and promote the hell out of it, not subject themselves to this farce.

I support chest padding, and actually some like Liz Gorman cover up more (which is fine and I'm glad LFL allows exceptions), but people have to understand the culture of LFL and it's still a dangerous sport, w/ pads or not. Just like Mixed Martial Arts, they don't wear headgear, and have less rules compared to Boxing and Tae Kwon Do, but even in more strict sports, they are still dangerous.

That's just negative people's point of view. The core of the LFL are the athletes. They agree to the terms, almost all of them accept the uniform, some are even 100% comfortable playing in that uniform. And many of them don't see it as objectifying or degrading. They are tough, they know it's a dangerous sport, they know they can win fans with their performance, and passion and teach people to respect the person beyond the uniform with their athleticism, determination, personality, committment, teamwork and knowledge.

                  re: Legends Football League

It's not all looks. Here is one example of a girl that went to the tryouts last year but their skills weren't at the level required. They aren't simply recruiting pretty women, they want football players that can play at a professional level and choosing the best ones out of the groups, so getting into the LFL is competitive in itself and not something anyone can do. So the quality of the LFL players football capabilities, is something that isn't overlooked. Contrary to critics beliefs, the LFL is not all looks. And the LFL has proven that it doesn't need uniforms like NFL to be seen as a real pro sport. Like I said before, the majority of society's views of women in sports, especially sports like football, has made it too difficult to profit from women's football on athleticism alone and expand as much as it's rapidly expanding. They even signed a reality show deal that goes behind the scenes with a mature attitude.

It's not just that ... I will bet a million dollars (if I had it) that the organization lead are mostly staffed by males.

So, J9, you can continue to feed from the trough of lies they put out or you can stop and really think about what these women really want. Many young women need money and don't think of the consequences down the road on what they do. Men in leadership positions don't help. Of course, you also need to think just how many "Herbert the Perverts" sit on their board, but whatever.

Would hate having to be in a position where I'd have to apply for a job and during an interview, someone pulls up some obscure random photo taking of me when I was a lot younger in a compromising situation and being either: (a) denied the job or (b) being hired but then taken advantage of through blackmail.

                        re: Legends Football League

How can you say what these women really want? You can't generalize something like that! Some want money, some want attention, some want to play arena football at that professional level. But no one can say they are all after the same thing.

The one thing that is clear, if you have been reading and watching things said by the athletes themselves, is that THEY KNOW what they are getting into. It's a tough and dangerous sport, and people have to be crazy to think any of these athletes are in the LFL without a clue what it required of them.

It's not like the league just started a month ago.

Women who are in the LFL have watched, read and learning everything about the LFL, and there wouldn't still be women interested in participating in the tryouts if they didn't agree with the uniform or the danger/risk involved.

It's the same for the women in the MMA, it's dangerous, they can get hurt, they know most people who watch women's MMA are perverts, but they don't see things from negative perspective. Athletes know what they are getting to and most of them have a great time AND ENJOY IT.

And LFL athletes know that the league cannot be successful and expand without the "T&A" as some people refer to it.

It's not the league's fault, it's society's and the men's view of women playing sports that causes the majority of them to not watch women's football unless women expose enough to draw their attention and pay money to watch it. That's just how society is and the reason why a women's football league can only grow rapidly and maintain success at the level LFL is going.

What was women's football before the LFL?

Most people don't even know there are women that want to play arena football at a national and global professional level.

LFL opened doors for women that are tough, skilled and brave enough to join the LFL. Women's football wouldn't have been as successful as LFL is making it out to be.

And the women in LFL know that more fans will learn to judge them by their athletism and personality, not what they are wearing. Like the saying goes, mew, "don't judge a book by its cover."

the LFL is not only successful due to the uniform, the competition and sport itself results in a formula that separates it from sexual entertainment like strip clubs (which is all looks, nothing else). If they were naked or topless, that would be crossing the line, but in my opinion, their LFL uniform is not demeaning and not offensive.

Let the LFL athletes decide if the uniform is demeaning or not, not you.

The Women's branch of FIFA seemed to get along ok without exploitation within the league.

So did the WNBA and LPGA, just off the top of my head. Also gymnasts, figure skaters, track athletes seemed to do OK. Female skiiers and snowboarders managed to get by fully clothed even.

I think the Women of the MMA put up with what they do because they beat other people up for fun.

Of course, that's under the assumption MMA is a real sport. I have my doubts about this ever since PROFESSIONAL WRESTLERS became involved.

                            re: Legends Football League

None of those things are american football. Also things like soccer are some of most played and influential sport in the world, so it has no shortage of fans nationally and globally. Also things like the WNBA have not expanded in size and success as quickly as the LFL.

And even Women's FIFA, the world only turns full attention to it during the World Cup.

I think it's realistic to say that LFL would only be half as popular if the uniforms were like NFL. And what kind of company would settle for half of its potential?
It most certainly would not have been as successful in Australia and Canada if the LFL wasn't the LFL.

It would have ended up being closed like the XFL and other sports leagues.

Why the WNBA isn't -- and will never be -- a popular league - Jeff Pearlman - SI.com

As we know, even in the videogame industry, sex sells (where would Tomb Raider, Lollipop Chainsaw, Heavenly Sword, or Bayonetta be without it?) but that is not necessarily a bad thing since the franchise can receive more success, which benefits the league, the athletes and the fans in more ways than one.
