Rory has two modes. Butt monkey and badass. So yeah. And yes, that whole thing only worked because Rory wasn't savvy enough to realize what the Dalek was saying. As a viewer though, it was a bit frustrating.

Well Rory can go from failing at an American accent to dying more often than Kenny from South Park to blowing up an entire Cyberman Fleet just to prove a point, then back to being a total butt monkey again in the same series. I think the amount of Rory abuse depends on the writer. Moffat doesn't have his pet character to write about anymore so I think the Rory abuse will only escalate in the next few episodes.

The actress playing her is confirmed to be appearing later in the series, likely as some kind of ancestor and descendant of her sisters or something.

To add to what Fire said. Coleman's character in "Asylum" was Oswin Oswald. Her companion character is Clara Oswin. Clara is, and I quote, "a computer whizz who is feisty and flirty". Draw your own conclusions.

All I'm saying is nobody has ever complained about any sort of discussion of the promotional material or casting of a TV show (announced months before the first episode aired) on the forums until now.

I've no idea if Etra was being sarcastic or not and I'm really trying not to come across as being argumentative here; I am also genuinely sorry if people were upset about the above posts. All I was doing was pointing out that all of the information in this thread (and the casting information for the entire series) has been an open secret among the fanbase for a while and is readily available on the official website:

BBC One - Doctor Who (obviously don't browse this site if you consider Open Secrets as spoilers and by extension DEFINITELY do not view the IMDB profile for Series 7 of Doctor Who as it has full casting information of episodes 1-5 from the official website plus the exact episodes in which Jenna-Louise Coleman appears in)

The thing is, I completely agree. That said, it's a tiny thing to do in order to enable more people to participate in the discussion. Not everyone bothers to read up on news about the shows they watch.

I'm not going to look at casting information or at other information that's released outside of the show that's going to spoil the overall plot. I mean, seriously. Why watch a show if all you're going to do is look up every little thing about it so you already know what's coming?
