Depends on your definition of royalty; Pocahontas was the daughter of the chieftain. There was also Lilo and Nani from Lilo and Stitch, which passes the Bechdel test. It also gets extra points for moving away from the pencil-thin proportions of Disney princesses, but that's just how Chris Sanders draws, not a deliberate move from Disney. Incidentally, I believe the writers/director of Brave said they didn't exactly set out to make Merida a feminist character; they just started off with the premise that having a daughter is hard. It's a bit of a shame, because it seems like no one at Disney is really thinking about this stuff and anything progressive is coming out of there through coincidence.

That part at the end when Ralph says the best part of his day is when the Nicelanders lift him up to throw him because he gets to see Vanellope made me d'awww so hard.

Incidentally, at some point in the movie, my fiancé turns to me. "Hey, I like that name, Vanellope. How about we name our daughter that?" After initially being kekekeke at how terribad all the names for the Sugar Rush characters are, I think actually that might not be so bad.

I figured it was something people have known for ages but yeah I haven't been around.

Just got back from seeing it myself. It was pretty awesome. I laughed. I squee'd. I d'aww'd.

I particularly liked how the movie had multiple arcs that came together at the end. I was legitimately surprised by the plot twist re: the story's antagonist. In retrospect it feels like I should've seen it coming, but realistically it's incredibly easy to overlook. Like Felix said, "No way."

I also liked how they played up the angle of how terrible Ralph generally is at creation/restoration, and conversely how inept Felix is at destruction.

The villain's name was a really poor choice, because when they first bring it up there's a bunch of Street Fighter characters in the room so all I could think of was Street Fighter II: Turbo, and it threw me for a loop.

Add to that it was M. Bison who first said it. I was very confused when "turbo" ended up being a very important word in the movie.

It was still incredibly poor planning, and I find it hard to believe that someone on the team didn't bring that issue up during a meeting.

I was thinking of those old computers with "turbo" buttons, personally.

Honestly, it was confusing, but it wasn't that hard to figure out that "going turbo" is some kind of term for "going rogue" and causing havoc; and clearly there weren't a lot of other great words they could've used. It wasn't really supposed to be clear, if it were they would've told the story much earlier in the film.
