Reading this might prove to be a valuable lesson, regardless of what media or hobby its applied to. Seems there's lots of people in the gaming community screaming this every five seconds about something.

And so on. I'm sort of glad to have stepped away from this mentality. I shook the remnants of it away once I played Shadow of Colossus and tried to play it on its own merits rather than expect/demand Ico out of it.

And as I've said elsewhere, I've been rewatching old X-files episodes. I'd almost consider the latter half of Season 3 and the first half of Season 4 to be a lost season. Nothing really stood out or was really compelling save for the Black Oil bits. And Season 3 was where the real conspiracy began for the series. I'm at Season 5 now and its really where the series hit a good groove with a fair dose of good humor along the way.

Of course, Season 8 and 9 were where people really spazzed. Cuz Mulder wasn't in all of the episodes, only some of them. I always thought they managed pretty well. Seems history has been kinder to those two seasons than people initially were.

I'm just glad the "Ruined Forever" types are never listened to by authors and creators.

I mean, people say it about Transformers and that...that was a series created to sell toys. Why so serious?

There's a pretty good chance when (not if) that game bombs, they'll go right back to classic Dante. But then again, Capcom has been awfully stupid lately. You can tweak or put the character in new settings etc, but you don't change an iconic character. That would be like if Nintendo suddenly changed Mario to a Frenchman wearing a beret in a mime costume, but kept the gameplay fairly close to the same. I don't think people would take too kindly to the sudden remodeling.

She's been "Talking" since Super Metroid. She only just now actually has a voice, and are people honestly complaining about that? Seriously? Good lord...

Again, not the end of the world, people need to shut up about that. He still looks like the Link we all know and love. I myself don't care for the hybrid artstyle but it's not so horrible that I'd write it off outright (and before you try to point out any contradictions or hypocrisies, new Dante is offensive on multiple levels)

Blizzard updated Starcraft II

Again, don't know where you're getting this from. Most of the "hate" over SC2, at least that I know of, is over the plot. It's totally unfounded too, given that it's freaking part one of three. OMGZ TEH CLIFFHANGER ENDING! Yeah, that was pretty much the whole point. I thought it was epic, classic Blizzard story telling at it's finest. Makes me miss Diablo II. Unless you meant the QQ'ing over balance issues... which again, who cares? Blizzard can't please everyone, and there will be more updates and new units with the 2 expansions.

Even people that love his series completely ignore the second installment. 4 has a new character. Other than a few cameos in other games, Dante has all of two popular games.

Mario is a terrible analogy. Changing Dante is more like changing Bubsy.

I dunno, Bubsy is kinda down there with Aero the Acrobat. Dante is somewhere below Solid Snake, Travis Touchdown and Gordon Freeman, but above Nathan Drake (who's really just "another generic, scruffy-lookin' white dude voiced by Nolan North").

And even Solid Snake got upstaged by his own dad. Twice. Being Big Boss was way more awesome. Maybe not so much being Raiden, though everyone wants a Raiden game now.

Dante is more on Raiden's level. We like him, but people just decided they liked him much more than they used to.

She logged a journal entry in Super Metroid, I don't consider that talking. She first spoke in Metroid Fusion. People complained about that back then, but so called "hardcore" fans seemed to have been oblivious to Fusion's existence and are objecting to her talking now. In all practicality. Samus does have an overblown narrative, but its the fault of the director, not the actor. Even the way the actress read the lines was the director's choice and while I think that particular choice was fine, a lot of people seem to think you should be really passionate when you read a journal entry aloud.

Because, you know, Star Trek captains always used their personal log to get really worked up. Captain Kirk did have that Klingon rant, but that's the only one that sticks out to me where he got worked up. And a Klingon did kill his son.

Also, really seriously not understanding the Samus rage. It'd be one thing if she sounded like some redneck hillbilly but I rather liked her VA in Other M, and I'm still waiting for Link to finally break out of what I like to call "Crono Syndrome" XD

No one made a Stink when Mario started talking... and besides, isn't it far more interesting when the character starts talking and you become emotionally attached to them? Hell, even Master Chief talks every now and then lol.

Uh, that's kind of the point. If enough people don't give a fuck, the character is not iconic, even if J9 considers it to be the best character in the universe until a new game comes out.

The difference is too thin for me to consider. Both let you see the person's speaking voice and thoughts, whether they're actually speaking or not.

If Link had a journal he would stop being a silent character. You might argue the semantics, but the rest of the universe will still nerdrage.

Mario is kinda like the Simpsons - no matter what happens in one game, they've forgotten all about it by the next episode. No deep security measures are implemented to prevent princess abductions. No romantic progress between Mario and Peach.

The only constant is Bower returning to sow the seed he placed in Peach from a prior kidnapping so he can have more reptillian children. The voicing in Mario games is light because there really is no story there, save for the RPGs and even then they forget whatever story happened with the next game.

Link is almost never the same Link twice. Kinda hard to develop a character, much less apply full voice work if we going to bounce between Kid and Adult Link so much. The only constant, again, is the villain, which in this case is Ganondorf. He's always getting banished somewhere and comes back to cause problems for a different Link and Zelda every time.

Samus has continuity and history going for her. Her having a voice makes sense when you think about it in that way. And really, the people that don't want other characters involved are wierd to me. Samus has to get all these bounty contracts from somewhere. She has to interact with human society eventually. Why not give her a voice?

Yes and what's your point? DMC has always been campy, with a very loose plot at best. It's all about Dante being a bad ass and the awesome combat. DMC set the bar for action games much in the same way Goldeneye and then Halo did for FPS. Speaking of Halo and "Ruined Forever", I think it might actually apply to Halo now that Bungie is done with it. Just like when Nobuo left SE, it saddens me to think those games will not be graced by the work of Marty & Michael anymore
