    This can't be good: Mortal Kombat to get movie reboot

    Video.Destructoid - video game trailers for Wii, PSP, Xbox, PS3 & more | Upcoming video games

    First off, this trailer takes itself waaaay too seriously.

    Secondly, Jeri Ryan, why did you think it was a good idea to be in this movie? There are so many other, better movies you could be in. I would rather remember you as 7 of 9 than Sonia Blaze.

    Third, I kept waiting for The Joker to come out and ask Detective Jacks, "You wanna know how these scars?"

    Fourth, Scorpion as the protagonist? No, just no.

    Finally, Johnny Cage is dead before the movie begins - like that hasn't happened before.

    I still think they could have left it at the original movie, which achieved greatness for how blatantly bad it was while having fun fight scenes. Not even Street Fighter: The Movie could say that. I mean, c'mon it had Christopher Lambert!

    Also, the trailer needed more of this music:

          To be fair, MK actually did have a backstory and mythos. It was a fanfic level mythos, but a mythos all the same. When they made a live action TV series for it, it was actually rather decent, at least in a Hercules/Xena kind of way.

          Then again, that was because it focused on Kung Lao, Raiden and some character named Talia played by Kristiana Loken. It was sort of a prequel series.

              Yeah, the backstory wasn't very good. But a Mortal Kombat movie could only attract a particular set of fanboys to come see it. I know it's just a trailer, but I get the feeling that movie that is really so unrecognizable will immediately alienate those fans. Like BBQ says...Scorpion as a protagonist?

                Hahahaha I Remember The First Movie Was Good... Well It Was For Me Years Ago, I Re-watched It Recently And It Looked Lame! Still Might Watch This One Just For Good Old Times. ^^

                  They could very well be trying to appeal to the less-hardcore fanboy that cares less about the backstory so much as it looking cool. And really, Scorpion was my favorite character in my younger days back when Mortal Kombat seemed relevant. I mean, he was a badass that wore yellow, first of all, but really, I just thought he was a really cool guy, eh shoots harpoons and doesn't afraid of anything.

                    I've also heard Tomb Raider might get a reboot... with Kim Kardashianwhatsherface.

                    As much as I'm not a fan of Tomb Raider fan, I'm pretty sure Angelina Jolie can still do that role. What's the studio trying to say, that she's not hot anymore. Because if that's what they think, they have issues. If Brad really doesn't want her, I'll take her - just tell her to stop adopting so many damn kids.

                      She wants the part but nothing is set in stone. She also wants to pay the part entirely different, she "wants to do a more comic strip version of Lara", she said. She does realize this is a video game character right?? Oh and she's been taking serious acting lessons...doesn't it take YEARS until you are a good actor?? Oy....

                        The eight-minute clip from a purported Mortal Kombat movie that surfaced earlier today has set the Internet ablaze with speculation as to what exactly the footage could be. A live-action teaser for the next Mortal Kombat videogame? A leaked clip from the "upcoming" stuck-in-development-hell Mortal Kombat film? It's actually neither of those things, according to actress Jeri Ryan, who played the part of Sonya Blade in the video and gave out some background details on her Twitter:
                        Okay, so... Mortal Kombat. It's not a game trailer. Actually was made for the director to sell WB on his vision for a reimagined MK film. [...] I did it as a favor to a friend. No idea yet what WB's reaction to it was. And I'm not sure how you can contact WB to push them to make it. But you guys are resourceful...! ;-)
                        She didn't mention who the director might be, so let's all just hope that it isn't Paul W. S. Anderson. And as for letting Warner Bros. -- who, if you remember, obtained the Mortal Kombat license when they bought the remnants of Midway last year -- know that you want this film to get made, we're as clueless as Jeri Ryan is. Do you guys have any ideas?]
                        So its sort of a pilot for a movie?

                        Well, let's hope it never happens, 7 of 9 doesn't need to be in such movies.
