Movies worth seeing right now?

I went and saw How To Train Your Dragon the other week and Book of Eli about a month before that, but is there anything else in theaters right now worth checking out?

I mean, aside from completely unnecessary remakes like Alice in Wonderland and Nightmare on Elm Street? OK, Alice technically isn't a remake, but it was still unnecessary as a pseudo-sequel. I would have appreciated it if Tim Burton had just moved ahead to his Addams Family stop-motion movie project instead of screwing with another movie classic. I like this stop-motion movies.

HTTYD was the first movie in 3D that I actually enjoyed. Probably helped the glasses rested neatly over my normal glasses, but there were no headaches this time. I never went to see Avatar, I hate James Cameron moves because they're always pretentious as hell. Vikings and Dragons > Space Marines and Tribal Aliens.

Eh, maybe I'll just rent this week, I never did see Sherlock Holmes last year and definitely still want to.

Sherlock Holmes was meh. It's not a terrible action film, but there's very little mystery to it; and what's the point of a Holmes without mystery? You might want to give Avatar a shot-- it's too simplistic to be very pretentious. Only real pretentious quality is the length, but it's needed. What it does do very well is world building. Even if you don't give a shit about the plight of the Na'vi, it does a great job of making Pandora a pretty believable place, but more importantly feels like a place you know about. I even found myself picking up bits and pieces of the artificial language before the movie was over.

Glad to hear you enjoyed HTTYD! Always been a big fan of Chris Sander's work... as if you couldn't tell by my avatar and signature...

I also vote for Kick-Ass! Haven't seen it yet myself, but probably will end up going today.

Hot Tub Time Machine looks like a fun comedy too... will most likely sneak into that one after. >.> Well, guess I can't say sneak. I swear my theater cares less about walking into another room once you're inside.

Concerning Hot Tub Time Machine, if you don't go in there expecting too much, and watch it as something to do while messing around with some friends, you'll come out pleasantly surprised. Quite a bit of low-brow gross humor to wade through, though, particularly towards the beginning.

There are actually a few movies I'd like to go see, though, and I figured it'd be best to get that one out of the queue first, anyway. HTTYD, Kick-Ass, and Alice are, of course, among them, as I've heard very good things about each.

Yep I agree Feba, Sherlock Holmes was meh. I certainly was disappointed by it.

Hot Tub Time Machine is a great rental movie to watch with friends but I can't recommend seeing it in the theaters.

Clash of the Titans should have been called Clash between Perseus and Hades. I was disappointed in this show also. Instead of going for a fuller and more entertaining story, they went "Hollywood" and changed the myth to suit their designs so they could have an ending that would scream SEQUEL! Watch the older movie, it was more entertaining even if the special effects are old school.

Given I don't watch TV like, at all, I pretty much go to movies with no expectations as it is. I very rarely even check the internet for details anymore, I just go to movies for the sensory overload. Helps clear your head for a little while.

Didn't think Hot Tub Time Machine was all that great. Had a few funny parts but for the most part it seemed like it was crude for the sake of being crude. I did see Death at a Funeral this weekend and was surprised by how funny it was. Much funnier than I expected. Ofcourse, lately I've been going into movies with lower and lower expectations. Most excited I am for new movies (and I wouldn't really say excited) coming out soon are for the new Robin Hood and Ironman 2 movies.

Kick Ass was f'n amazing... warning... UltraViolence and Adult Themes... Incredible flick tho... really toys with your emotions and perspective on superhero movies. I laughed, I cried, I felt as though I had walked on the surface of the sun... I rarely ever do this... but I'm buying that movie as soon as it's released.

Me too. Every time I get hyped about a movie and then get in to see it, I leave disappointed. I've become so disillusioned with movies that I won't go unless dragged there. (My son does that very well. lol)

I'm PRAYING that they dont' screw up Robin Hood and IronMan 2. I'm worried. I already have a feeling about IronMan 2...I don't think its going to suck but I think its going to fall short of the first one. As for Robin Hood, I just hope they don't go "Hollywood" with the story like they did with Clash of the Titans.
