Re: You asked for it.. you got it.. Karate Kid remake
Not sure why it's called the karate kid when it's set in China and he's teaching him kung fu but it looks good all the same. To be fair, it'll probably be better than the original because the fighting in that was terrible. Not sure why the kids are so young in this though, the lead looks about 10. Just makes that scene where Jackie Chan fights them look like a middle-aged guy beating on kids.
Re: You asked for it.. you got it.. Karate Kid remake
Karate is a universal word for any type of martial art.
In China, abuse of the knowledge of martial arts is shunned, so an old man seeing some kids abuse what they know will most likely teach them a lesson that they will remember. Don't you think?
A mans strength isn't measured by the size of his muscle, but by the size of his heart.

This is not a remake, its a reboot. Same theme, but different age, characters and location.
And really, Jackie Chan taking a similar role to Pat Morita is just about as appropriate for this kind of movie as you can get, if not moreso. Morita wasn't really a martial artist as much as a comic actor who also did serious roles well. Jackie Chan has always had a strong sense of comedy and could play a good mentor character, too.
Chan is really getting up there now and still doing a lot of his own stunt work. Its not going to be long that much longer before the only way he can still do movies is if its stuff like this, but I'm always happy to see his movies all the same. He's been the modern day Buster Keaton, I don't think there are many other actors on his level that have made the level of physical sacrifices he has. He's more than worthy enough to fill the shoes of Morita.
Also curious to see how well this kid does, Jada Pinkett and Will Smith are some of my favorite actors out there, so it will be interesting to see how their son does starting out so much younger than they did.

This looks awful. How is he going to paint the fence when he can't reach the top? What about wax on and wax off? He can't even drive. Maybe he waxes a rickshaw instead.
Awww crap... I thought J9 Said that. Now I can't even say what I was going to say.
Can't be too much worse than this.

They share the same principles, the movie's theme will be about the principles, so it doesn't really matter what the martial art it is. They can talk Karate or the Wude of Kung Fu, but the principle is the same - use this art to defend yourself, protect others and be the better man and not be needlessly provoked. Its not about harming others. Its about your honor.
So they actually can call it The Karate Kid, even if its got Kung Fu in it. Plus its just easier to market it since its a familiar name and flows better. And if Jackie Chan isn't fussing over the details, I don't see a reason to.
