Rumor Mill for Star Trek 2 villains:

"It's definitely a character that will make fans of TOS excited," according to Badass' source. "Think along the lines of Harry Mudd, or Trelane, or Gary Mitchell, or the Talosians or the Horta. Actually, it's one of those that I named."
I don't think I can take this seriously, you throw those five out there and seriously expect Abrams would us any of them besides Gary Mitchell. If you really want to do Talosians, though, forget Mitchell and go with a fresh spin on Charlie Evans instead.

Kinda glad TNG stuck to one "phenominal cosmic power" type of character in Q. TOS had too many for its time

Mudd might work for some sort of comic relief character, but not as a main threat. I mean, he was the space pimp of female androids and an all around con-artist.

Repeating anything with the Horta just kinda steals away what made them special in the first place. Unless they decide to not coexist with humans this time out, then that might be interesting.

        --------------------

Watched Batman: Under the Red Hood last night along with The Crazies remake.

All in all, the Batman told an nice abridged version of the Jason Tood/Red Hood story. It does feel odd to watch an animated movie without the actors but as with the recent Justice League movie, Bruce Greenwood does right by Batman and Neil Patrick Harris does an excellent job as Nightwing.

The key problem wasn't the guy that played the Joker, but the way the Joker was written. See, Joker was at his most evil when he beat Robin #2 bloody with a crowbar. He's supposed to say things that are meant to sound funny, but just come off wicked. He didn't even say the line "This is going to hurt you more than it hurts me." He generally comes off like a mob thug in this movie. Mark Hamill - while I know he's maintaining that the Arkham Asylum game series is where his Joker will appear last - is sorely missed here. I though he could have improved some good stuff in.

But overall,I liked it. Its no Mask of the Phantasm, Return of the Joker or Mystery of the Batwoman, but a good popcorn flick.

They are from some of my favorite episodes so I could care less about over thinking how they would fit in or not. I'm sure they could come up with any number of ways to include them into the storyline and make it interesting.

I guess I just have a hard time imagining an actor or comedian that could do Mudd these days.

Hmm...good point. I think Tim Roth could do Mudd. He's not a comedian but he's great in Lie To Me and has a sarcastic sense of humor.

Only problem is he's a bit underweight. lol

South African Model Wonder Woman Contender? - TV News at IGN

Possible actress for the Wonder Woman TV series, model and actress Tanit Phoenix.

She's hot, but all she serves to do is look like another Lynda Carter.

They're apparently not learning what we should have learned from Superman returns - Don't cast an actor that looks like the previous actor as it kinda stops them from making the role their own. Brandon Routh really got dicked into emulating Christopher Reeves, so I don't think its fair to peg this chick to do half-hour Lynda Carter tribute each episode.

Dean Cain didn't have to do Reeves' Clark Kent/Superman (only reason he lost that gig was because the writers went to shit in Season 2). Chris Pine was not bound to emulate William Shatner's version Kirk.

Give me a fresh, new Wonder Woman, not the same stuff from the early 80s.

Problem is, by herself, Wonder Woman in the comics just isn't that interesting. Or on TV.

Put her in the Justice League or a Brave and the Bold story and then you've got something.

Watched the original Richard Donner Superman. Christopher Reeve really was the perfect guy for the job at the time, so much that simply emulating him for Returns was very bad idea. I mean, Brenden Routh did a fine job of it, but given no one else was really emulating roles aside from Reeve-Superman and Hackman-Luthor.

Superman and Superman II were also the only good ones of the series, once you got to Superman III and IV. I mean, putting Richard Pryor in there was kinda screwy looking back. Superman and Pryor? That Superman was too wholesome for Pryor to actually be funny. You needed him with Gene Wilder for that to even work.

There's also the fact that this Superman is just a bit too, like I said, wholesome even for today. At the same time, you can't really make him a dark character like Batman without changing who he is. Given Christopher Nolan is always doing dark films, I hoping he doesn't take Superman that direction so much as the circumstances around him, perhaps. It still a a ways off, though, given he still has Batman 3 to get done.

Aside from Hal having to overcome fear in this movie - which I suppose is a fair compromise for those unfamilar with Green Lantern stuff - it looks like they did everything to make this a full-fledged GL movie. Tons of recognizable GLs in this, though I didn't see Guy Gardener anywhere, but it had John Stewart and Kilowog.

Only downer is any emphasis on Hector Hammond as a enemy. Of all the GL baddies to pick... but I'd suppose it would be too soon to make Sinestro the central villain, though I'm sure he'll be pulling Hammond's strings somehow.

I was looking around the web and it appears as though the new Wonder Woman TV series doesn't have any networks that are interested in it.

I think much of it has to do with it more or less pathetically trying to recycle the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman which, while romaticized by 80's TV junkies, isn't terribly memorable in the grand scheme of thing.

I think it also has to do with the fact that when you look at her origin story, its just not as filled with a dramatic potential that humanizes her in any real way. She was created from clay, given life by Zeus and raised as an Amazon warrior who is sent out one day by the Amazons to be an ambassador of peace to the world of men.

So she's already coming to the rest of the world with a condescending, snobby and, quite frankly, sexist view of the world of men. She loves a good fight and wants to teach the world about peace. Yeah, I think we can sell this.

With Superman, you have a guy born an alien, but raised like a human.
With Batman, you have a rich kid that loses his parents and becoming a defender of the innocent is an obsession.

So while they have their unrelatable points, both Clark and Bruce also have rather sympathetic viewpointss as well. Everyone's been a stranger before and found a group that took them in, everyone's at least tasted the dark potentials of obsession and know some degree of injustice.

Not everyone knows what its like to be made from dirt and then taught to fight.

Diana isn't without her good points, though. She's very much a tactician. Superman doesn't know how to use his power as effectively as she does, he's not a trained warrior, just a real nice guy that learned how to pull his punches. But she also lacks that needed bit of tragedy all good superheroes tend to have, a catalyst that makes her what she is.

Though I think a completely failed campaign on her part would fix that.

"The Dark Knight Rises" has been announced.

Anne Hathaway as Catwoman/Selina Kyle - I don't know about you kitties but she sounds yummy

Tom Hardy as Bane, so there's our big bad for the movie. As with the Joker and Ra's Al Ghul, there will be some core elements retained but differences with this character.

I imagine they're going to drop the luchador mask for the character, I just don't see that working well in a movie.

Bane deserves a proper depiction for once, god knows Batman and Robin movie and the Arkham Asylum games made him look like a laughing stock, bringing none of his cunning and intelligence to the forefront. Nolan can do this guy, some real justice, I think.

Well, here's the new Wonder Woman, Adrianne Palicki. Wonder Woman going to be an NBC show, so its destined for cancellation.

The costume is... well... it needs work.

                              Trick of Treat

I guess my thing is it looks too plasticky and if you're going to cover up the legs, why not just forget the trademark bustier as well? Why is it every other Superman and Spider-Man get these weird latex and rubber get-ups Aren't these guys supposed to be able to wear their costumes beneath their working clothes?

I guess if they skewed to WW's current look with the black leather jacket this could work on Halloween, though.

Just make the boots red, please.

                              /end Tim Gunn

Aside from that at least they avoided the temptation of trying to cast a woman that looked exactly like Lynda Carter. Her face is a bit more rounded, which is about what the comic book character is like these days.

First off the boots aren't red because if they are blue they elongate her body. With everything sexualized in this country, long lean looking women are more appealing.

I'm glad the shorts are gone.....VERY GLAD! As for the bustiere, I'm glad that its there. There should be some connection to the old show. They could have done away with that headband though. I never knew Amazonian women ran around with headband/crown thingies.

And nothing about that LIPSTICK!? OMG is that like industrial strength latex red with bulletproof properties!!?

And I think they look very much alike.
