  • Keanu's Sausage + Bebop

Apparently a real-world Cowboy Bebop is in the works, and mister-Monotone Keanu Reeves has been signed for the role of Spike.

Oh goodie. Not only has Hollywood pimped the cartoons of my childhood, they're raping my favorite anime... Keanu Reeves style. :<

Hey, they might as well obliterate what little unmolested areas we have left. They are releasing a live action Dragon Ball movie, this one, and I saw that they are trying to get a live action NGE produced.

Old news to me but still depressing.

Dragonball is one thing, but raping Cowboy Bebop is just unforgivable.

Well, he does look a good bit like Spike, provided a good wig...

The movie isn't out yet, perhaps it won't be as bad as you think.

Spike doesn't really have all that "animated" of a personality anyway--I think Keanu Reeves is probably a good choice for the part all things considered.

If anything Cowboy Bebob will be raped by the writers not the man playing Spike.

I think Keanu Reeves is a good choice for the role. His general movie personality type meshes well with Spike's attitude. The only reason you can't see it is because you have something against Keanu Reeves because of some other movie(s) he made that you didn't like.

            And...

There's a live-action Dragonball movie starring Keanu Reeves? O_o Will it be a 9 hour trilogy with 5 solid hours devoted entirely to powering up?

I saw the poster... Justin Chatwin as Goku. He's a little on the scrawny side, methinks--perhaps they'll CGI in some muscles. Truly, though, I don't think you can really bastardize DB too badly... It's not like it was some wonderful epic tale in the first place... Naming Goku's wife "Boobs" is just one example of a rather telling sign.

True. But have you seen Goku's transformation?

I agree that the actor chosen to play Spike would not be the one to ruin a film, and that a job like that would have been accomplished long before. I still don't think that I would like Keanu Reeves in that role, but I have to admit that I have only seen a dozen or so Cowboy Bebop episodes. I cannot say with any confidence that I really know what Spike is like.

                Oozaru or Super Saiyan?

I would assume that since it's an early episode that it would have to be one where Goku still had his tail, but he looks a little old for that (plus I didn't see a tail in the trailer--not that it couldn't just spontaneously regrow), and since he's still apparently using the stick, one would assume that he's a little young to be Super Saiyan... However, since this would be a localization and free form bastardization, why not have both?

Also, Bulma is apparently a badass (if the Dual Wield Pistols photo is accurate) instead of just a whiny engineer. Thus the Political Correctness Localization comes into play. Now they just have to put Krillin in a wheelchair and make Vegeta of African descent.

Yeah, I don't think its Keanu Reeve people should be concerned with so much, because Spike's intonations and personality are something he could deliver just fine. In fact, he's pretty much typecast for this kind of role ever since The Matrix.

Its the writers and the directors that need watching here. Its all on them to get it right. Thing is only in the last several years has Hollywood decided to treat things like comic book superheroes a little more seriously and that's its own American media. They don't bastardize these things for a quick buck anymore because they know they'll get lynched by nerds and casual fans alike if they do.

But have they learned that with video games and japanese anime? I don't know if they have. Just because something is popular animated doesn't mean people want (or care) to see it in live-action.

I can wait for the people behind the animated series to make another animated feature, really.

I for one would like to start a pool on whether or not Keanu will deliver his signature catch phrase, "Whoa".

And this is why I don't give a flying fuck about Hollywood anymore.

                      I don't know if you guys heard, but Paul Anderson is trying to get the Castlevania movie back on track and I dearly hope he fails;

You know, I'd get worked up about Castlevania's story, but seeing it seldom has ever had a good one, I just can't.

I play it for the setting, music, boss fights and exploring.

Story is dead last on the list and most the characters I don't give a damn about, aside from Alucard and Soma. I wouldn't care to see the movie at any rate.
