  • Color me confused

So first we have: Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003 TV series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Makes sense, it was a lead-in for Revenge of the Sith, introduced a character or two, and wasn't terrible.
Then we have: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Strikes me as another one of George Lucas' excuses to get people to pay him money. I could almost see a point to making it, but I'm long past the point of caring.
Now there's: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008 TV series - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
I'm reminded of the first link. It would appear Lucas isn't even pretending to hide the fact that hes out to get as much money as possible from fans. Though it would seem after the Clone Wars film that people are quickly not giving a crap.
Is there even an excuse for this newest incarnation of Clone Wars?

    Re: Color me confused

The point, more or less, is to fill the gap between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, telling the story of Anikin, his apprentice and the Clone Troopers using a Korean animation studio to do all the grunt work. Samuel L Jackson plays Mace Windu for free anyway.

Not to mention, there's actually a comic book series that pre-dates the movie and the new animation series, which served as the inspiration for the animated shorts in the first place. Go to a bookstore, check out the Graphic Novel sections and you'll probably see them.

Did you think Star Wars was just going to curl up and die right after Revenge of the Sith? They just came out with The Force Unleashed, a story telling about another of Vader's secret apprentices. Also, tons of novels and comics and video game franchises are based on Star Wars. Practically at three decades of lore. Its like LOTR - its influential and it won't go away.

To be fair, the recent movie was decent and more entertaining than Episode I and II (meaning, dysfunctional bickering between characters akin to the original trilogy, take Han and Leia and replace them with Anikin and Snips). Also, Jango Fett wasn't terribly built up as a character, so its only fair his army of clones get more screen time. Not that the Mandalorians ever get much screentime to start with.

No, we figured they'd do the sequel trilogy. We all know the material is there and waiting for it, and we all know that there's no reason not to make it if they're just going to milk the series anyway.

Plus the original trilogy actors are getting around that age.

          You figured wrong.

I mean, unless you actually want Lucas to find a successor to take the helm he doesn't seem to be willing to let go of. Shit, Star Trek is still looking for someone to take the helm since Rick Berman's best ideas after TNG and DS9 was directly and blatantly ripping off sci-fi franchises. A retcon punch like Enterprise, for example, proves Rodenberry didn't pick well.

And we're talking Lucas here, he hasn't been exactly a stable hand since Episode I, there's no telling who he'd pick.

I'm waiting to see if when the episodes come on TNT or TBS, I forget what channel they are supposed to be on, if they'll be in HD since I dont get Cartoon Network in HD.

Oh, I get that its not going to die. I just can't figure out why they're triple dipping the span b/w Attack and Revenge. Aside from the new game, I don't remember seeing or reading anything about the time frame b/w the trilogies. Seems like there's a lot of stuff there that would make for good viewing.

Supposedly there's some live-action TV show that's planned to do just that, but no word on when it hits or whether or not it was canned. It was supposed to be a show with no central cast, but would tell stories about various characters in the universe and the events that take place between Revenge and A New Hope.

There's plenty of reason to cover the Clone Wars a bit more. First off, its a signifigant event in the timeline that the movies just kinda gloss over. Another reason is that it gives a little more space to flesh out the Jedi and Sith a bit more, and to humanize the clone troopers a bit. That was actually one of the elements that really came out in the movie, not all the troops were just faceless drones, but guys with thier own personalities.

You know what I wish they'd come out with? I would die for Lucas to make Shadows of the Empire (Lead in from Episode V-VI). Also wouldn't mind them making Episodes 7,8,and 9 with REAL actors and a realistic environment. I would be one of the first people to watch it.

But of course they come out with this cartoon crap. I'm a huge star wars buff and when I had the chance to see the star wars movie and Batman, I chose the latter.

That was a really good book. Good storyline and explained a lot of progression seen in VI.

1- We could already have Episode 7 in theatres in the time it's taken to make and work out this Clone Wars bullshit.
2- Episode 7 in theatres means Episode 8 is in production.
3- At this point, how many people think that Lucas actually knows what's best for Star Wars anyway? This isn't a matter of replacing Roddenberry (let's say if Quayle had become president), but a matter of Lucas himself already being fairly well out of it (let's say Reagan being removed from office).

Because Star Wars is is the only thing Lucas oversees.

                          hi2u Indiana Jones.

Also, Harrison Ford said he would never reprise Han Solo. He kinda wanted his career not defined by Star Wars. Throws a wrench in things. All Mark Hamill has been able to do is voice work and a Kevin Smith flick. I'll concede, however, he did an awesome Joker and that no one fucks with a Jedi Master.

I didn't say it would be good, or his only focus.

also, I can't imagine there's no one out there who can replace Harrison Ford. Everyone I've ever seen thinks that Han Solo is awesome, not the actor.

Well, Han and Indy are more or less the same type of character, Ford just did that rougish-type character really well. Sad nothing else he does is what I'd consider acting.

I think its sort of the same problem as who would replace Heath Ledger as the Joker. They're just hard shoes to fill.

Then there's Shadows of the Empire, which kinda goes back to your issues with The Clone Wars. Shadows of the Empire is considered to be cannon, but the story is not well-known in general and it brings up that messy cloning thing again. The Clone Army is actually cut and dry, but giving Palpantine a backdoor to always come back via a clone reeks of the continuity problems the Spiderman Clone Saga brought about (which actually forced all Spidy comics to a complete reboot, it was that bad.)

Shadows of the Empire also really takes away from the ending of Return of the Jedi.

Anyway, Lucas ended up wanting Star Wars I-VI to be about the fall and redemption of Anikin Skywalker and when you look at the story from that perspective, what we've seen so far works. A third trilogy would just be the restoration of the Republic and from I-III and things like KOTOR, we've already seen how it was in the old days, it would just go back to being that.

There's plenty of spaces to fill in-between, before and after. I just don't see why there would have to be a third trilogy. I actually find the era before either trilogy to be far more compelling at any rate.
