HERE COME THE DOOZY BOTS! Or, This is why nothing should be localized for Americans.
Re: HERE COME THE DOOZY BOTS! Or, This is why nothing should be localized for America
Um... so the main characters are fun-loving high school kids who.... are.... evil robots that want to destroy fun? ...and the professor is trying to kill these high school children after his own misguided experiment transferred their consciousness into robots?
Am I reading this right?
That is a rather... unusual premise. I would say that the ubiquitous phrase, "What were you smoking?" would most definitely apply, unless I'm misinterpreting and this is an extremely poor localization and the US version is completely wrong when compared to the original.
And OMG Armando... TY for reminding me that there was a live action Sailor Moon.... and one of them is in a wheelchair in the US version -.- so that we make sure that we're completely PC and inclusive. I don't think I've ever seen that particular SM item... The one I've seen was the JP Live-action one... let me see...
Hilarious.
Revised... better version. It has the cartoon transform followed by the JP live action SM (the Americanized version is definitely LEAGUES of funny better than this, but...):
No. Go watch Mobile Suit Gundam and come back when you fail less.
That seems to be the premise of the item you posted....
I have caught fragments of MSG (Love the acronym) at some point but it didn't really grab me and I've never actually watched more than maybe the intro and a tiny bit of the show itself, so I think I'll pass on the actual watching of it even it the form that it is/was recently successfully distributed. I'm aware of it's existence, but I don't plan to ever watch it.
I don't consider not watching a cartoon or piece of media "fail", though you might. I'm not required to like/watch everything you do--I'm glad I don't live in Febonia.

From my understanding, Dr Doozy created robots, but they turned evil and started running amuk so he created more robots and allowed them to be controled by transferring the minds of 5 kids into them to fight evil.
The animation and the show itself seem to be made by the people who do gundam, and the robots they turn into already had popular toys out in japan so merchandising would have been absurdly simple to do. However the attempt to create a "diversified" group of kids was actually one of the downfalls as they were too "stereotypical" to make it on TV. Pretty much the kids were downright insulting instead of being the "all american" types they were supposed to be.
Honestly though, if it weren't for that, the show wouldn't have been that bad as a kids cartoon. SD gundams are pretty nifty and woulda sold fast in the US if it they had a decent show backing them.
As for the US Sailor Moon bit...that was downright horrid. The original redub job for that show was bad enough, it's a good thing DiC lost the rights to it. But the JP version was supposedly pretty decent. Haven't seen it myself but it has a loyal following and was pretty popular at the time.

That sample is a completely original creation in an attempt to bring the Gundam franchise, which was huge in japan for at least a decade at the time, to the US masses. However they decided to use the super cute, "chibi" versions of the Gundam robots (SD gundams, popular collectors items in jp) and aim them at little kids where the original show was aimed at 13-14 year olds, or the "shonen" market.
However instead of releasing that specifically targeted attempt at the show, instead they just started airing (about a decade later) a dubbed version of the Alternate Universe Gundam series, Gundam Wing, on Cartoon Network and it just exploded from there. The Gundam story is really a great one, and a revolutionary anime at the time of it's creation. Nowadays, animated shows and movies can be just as dramatic and epic as any feature film and any sci-fan would do themselves a favor by watching the original Gundam at the least.
OMG the old Zelda cartoon! Believe it or not I was in a local used game/movie store tonight and saw 2 DVD's of the old Zelda up on the shelf. They were $4.99 each and I was very tempted to buy them but my son pulled me away. LOL Damn it I should have!
