To be quite honest, I don't have any real need to see movies in super high definition. Being on the cutting edge of technology is too expensive, and too fleeting for me to bother. It's exhausting trying to keep up.

When the format becomes standard, and prices reach levels that I'm more comfortable with, then I'll adopt. But I see little reason to suddenly cast aside all of the films and television shows I've been enjoying for years simply because I can see them a little bit crisper and clearer with this new format.

But everyone's priorities are different.

For me, the visual improvement is of little value as well. However, a lot of studios are tossing a lot of extra content into Bluray discs such as in-movie pop-ups etc. Things like that on movies I already know are a great selling point.

While I can't wait to switch to Blu-Ray, first thing's first, which is purchasing an HDTV, something with which I can fully appreciate the switch I've made.

Unfortunately, I won't be purchasing one really soon. All the better, I suppose, just bides time as more Blu-Ray titles are released.

Feba, entire seasons on a single disc will never happen. Blu-ray discs pretty much have to be encoded in 1080p; there's very little chance a studio will put out a TV series collection in 480p on a single disc. There's practically no financial reason to.

For those of you waiting for prices to fall, I can tell you that when Blu-ray does reach a price point that is appealing to you it will be very worth the investment. Even with PS3 upscaling, I can't intentionally go back to DVD.

Old TV shows may not be available in high def. There's certainly less reason to bother restoring them.

Basically good, cheaper BD players coming this next weekend. A 1.1 profile player for $300 isn't bad at all.

I hate sony so much I will not support Bluray. Only way Bluray can get me, would be for Sony Corp to get very very very little of my money when I buy something anything Bluray.

It makes me laugh when someone says stuff like that. We'll just sit back and enjoy ourselves while you swim in your self-righteousness.

Also I made a few adjustments to make another point:

I have to agree with Murphie here, there are many movies I don't want to see in HD period. Like Fargo, or anything else with Steve Buschemi's teeth in it.

We changed from VHS to DVD in what, 2-3 decades? Now we're doing DVD to Blu-Ray in under a decade. If there was a major leap in picture quality or content, yeah, I could justify that. But there isn't as big of a switch as VHS/DVD. Basically taking the same sized disc, adding a bit better clarity, and a bit larger capacity. If I've already got the cabinet space for that many DVDs, I'm good with them for awhile longer. Maybe if Sony makes Jessica Alba their spokesmodel and sends her over wearing nothing but a pair of kneepads, I may be "convinced". Until then, I'll wait til it's cheap or I absolutely have to.

I'll switch to blu ray when they cost as much as a regular DVD currently costs.
